The most familiar version of the Great Commission is depicted in the Gospel of Matthew 28:16-20:
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (NIV)
Go, make disciples, baptize, teach. Nope, nothing there specifically about writing a book.
The New Testament writings are of great value in preserving the teachings of Jesus, but they are by no means central to going, making disciples, baptizing, and teaching.
Moreover, the entire Christian message cannot be contained in any book (see John 21:25).

And the gospel must first be published among all nations.
Mark 13:10
Jesus states the Gospel, the "Good News" His Words should be published, and that His Blood was for the promise (marriage) of the "New Testament"
Jesus did not say the Words of Peter, or Paul should be published but, His Words, only. The Good News.
For Jesus said, " I come in my Father's name and you believe me not, another shall come in his own name and him you shall believe."

19"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Mathew 29: 18-20
