I have a spreadsheet set to calculate age automatically once you enter in the bday. Is there a way to lock only the age column so no one messes up the formula...and so you can skip directly over it when tabbing? I know how to protect document, and lock but I just want it for one column. I do not want to freeze windows.....just lock one column.

I can't protect my sheet and enter in information at the same time. I want to be able to skip over a column completely but have it visible...make sense?

Right click on the column and go to Protection and Lock it. Then you have to Protect the sheet for the locked cells to work.

yes there is a away..let me go and refresh my memory and I will come back and give you the steps ;)

By default, if you protect a sheet, ALL the cells will be locked. therefore you need to a few things first. I don't know how to do this in excel 2007, just earlier versions

1. Select all the cells in your worksheet
2. go to format, then cells, then protection tab
3. UNCHECK THE LOCKED/ HIDDEN BUTTONS
4. NOW, select just the row or colum or individual cell you WANT to protect. Then Go back do step 2 and 3 again, but now CHECK the Lock/Hidden botton..so that only this range will be locked or hidden when you do the next step

5. now go to tools and protect the sheet.

If you lock a cell and protect the worksheet, then you cannot type data into the cell, modify the data currently in the cell, or change other attributes of the cell (such as cell formatting). To lock the majority of the cells on the worksheet, follow these steps: 1. Select the cells that you want to remain unprotected. To select nonadjacent (noncontiguous) cells, hold down CTRL and click the cells that are to remain unprotected. 2. On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Protection tab. 3. Click to clear the Locked check box and click OK. 4. On the Tools menu, point to Protection, and then click Protect Sheet. Type a password if you want one, and then click OK
