hi. i have a few questions about purity rings. first of all to start
out with I'm 13 years old. (turning 14 in 3 months) and i believe
in no sex before marriage. i really want a purity ring, and i think
its something that would be nice.

so first...
what's the difference from buying a regular ring at
a regular store, than buying an actual purity ring?

do they bless it? or what.

sorry people, i'm stupid, but i just really want to know
about this. i would appreciate if you could help me out!

A purity ring is just a ring you use to let others know that you believe in chastity, so you really don't need a ring for that, no I don't think they bless them.

My advice is be yourself and forget about those vainful things that are nothing but pride.

The ring itself isn't anything more than a symbol - just like an engagement or a wedding ring. It's an outward sign for a decision and a commitment that you've made for yourself.

Good for you!

In my opinion, you could have any ring you want for this symbol. The "Chastity Rings" and "Purity Rings" that I've seen online often come with a commitment card, or a pledge card. But you could make one of those up for yourself, sign it and put it on your vanity mirror where you could see it every time you're getting ready to go out. Go for it - get any ring you'd like!

Congratulations to you - and God bless you!

(By the way, you're NOT stupid! "Stupid" is NOT asking the question when you don't know the answer!)

You could buy a ring at a jewelry store and have it blessed if you want. But, like another answerer said, YOU are the purity ring. Congratulations on making the decision to stay pure.

It is intended that wearing a purity ring is accompanied by a religious vow to practice celibacy until marriage. The ring is usually worn on the left ring finger with the implication that the wearer will remain abstinent until it is replaced with a wedding ring. There is no particular style for purity rings; however, many worn by Christians have a cross in their design in reference to Jesus Christ. Some rings contain a diamond chip or other gemstone and/or "Love waits" embossed somewhere on the ring.

I applaud your committment.

I suspect the difference between a 'regular' ring and an 'actual' purity ring is purely in marketing. Unless you're a Catholic and you feel the need to get a ring that has been 'blessed', the value of the ring is purely symbolic. It's a reminder to you of your committment to stay pure. In that case, any ring that you like is just fine.

Bless you,

Please let me add my congratulations on your commitment! It is going to take some real grit and determination to stay pure but it will be worth it after all.

As for the ring, have you asked your local church's pastor or youth leader? One or both of these folks might know of a place to check for one.

Some years back, I was serving as a temporary ("interim") pastor of a small Southern Baptist church. The youth leader led several of the youth (aged 12-15, as I recall) through a spoken pledge, and signed the commitment card. Then the parents placed the commitment ring on the youth's hand. That was one of the most precious services I've ever seen!

Also, please don't ever call yourself stupid. I think one or two others have commented on this. It's never stupid to follow God's will and the Bible's teachings. And I know personally that it's better to wait. I've known people who didn't and their consciences have bothered them for YEARS after the fact.

Finally, may I close with an excerpt from a sermon preached a long time ago, talking about this very thing?

"Truly, young people are brought up in such a way that a girl is ashamed to ask God for a boy, or a boy for a girl . . .
Should we not rather teach a girl in all seriousness to come into God’s presence confidently, saying, Behold, God, I have reached the age where I can marry, be Thou my Father, and let me be Thy child, grant me a good man, and by Thy grace help me to enter the estate of matrimony. Or, if it be Thy will, grant me the gift of chastity.” And the preacher went on to say that a boy should not try to make things happen by himself, but trust God and ask Him to make the first move.

Excerpts from a sermon printed by Martin Luther, 1522 AD.

i think it does not matter if it is a purity ring or a regular ring; I just think that as long as you make the promise to God and have a ring as a symbol that is all that matters.

Don't feel bad, I'm just as clueless about this as you are.

My guess is that you could by just any ring, (it's all about the symbolism), and use that.
If your church has a youth pastor I'd suggest you ask them
or even ask your parents to help you out on this.
