Jack Daniels is ok but mostly just name recognition and marketing.
Evan WIlliams is just is good and about 1/2 the price.
For the same price (or maybe a little higher) you can get Makers Mark which I think is much better.

First of all I'd like to say that if we are talking about your most common, Jack Daniel 's Old No. 7 (square base bottle with black label, white writing on the label) it should not be referred to as a bourbon. It is not bourbon. It is usually classified as a Tennessee whiskey (Tennessee whiskey often gets its own classification, therefore separate from what is labeled "American whiskey"), specifically it is Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey (as labeled by Jack Daniel Distillery). Bourbon is a form of whiskey, but Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is not bourbon.
The process for making Tennessee whiskey is similar to bourbon until just after the distillation process. Traditionally, bourbon is made in America, must be 51% corn or greater, usually aged 4 years in charred oak barrels, and distilled at 80 to 160 proof, stored at 80 to 125 proof. Tennessee whiskey is leached through charcoal and then stored in charred white oak barrels. Not to mention that traditionally bourbon is from Kentucky and Tennessee whiskey is from the Tennessee hills.
Secondly, you may just have a preference for bourbon. A lot of your answers up until I typed mine mentions forms of bourbon. Jim Beam is usually a bourbon. Makers Mark is also a bourbon.
I do agree that Jack Daniel's has a lot of marketing going for it. However Jack Daniel's has also won various awards for quality and is usually considered a "premium" liquor. However, that means jack squat if you don't like it. More than ever before, it has become common behavior to drink what you like, not what everyone thinks you should drink.
Hope this helps!

Yes.
It's not bad. But it's not really that good either.
I'm sure it sells so well based on name recognition alone.
Ask anyone non whiskey drinker to name a good brand of whiskey and 9 times out of 10 they will say Jack Daniel's.

It's all marketing. Jack daniels isn't neccisarily bad, but for the same price there are better options out there.
