Some companies have a pretty intricate process when hiring someone new. After the interview, many perform background and reference checks, and must get approval from the powers that be on a pay-rate before they can make a formal offer. All this takes a few days, and even longer if you happened to be one of the first few interviewed. With all that and the hiring manager being out of town for a few days, it's not necessarily a bad thing you haven't heard anything yet.
I'd give it the rest of the week and extend another phone call on Monday. If you strike out again, you could always contact the human resources department to see if the position has been filled.

This shows insensitivity and rudeness on the part of the employer. I would think if you had the job, they would have contacted you, but I still think it is worth pursuing. Leave it for a day, then phone up and ask for feedback on your performance, what did they need for the job, etc. This should help you with your next interview. If you were unfortunate this time round, consider it a lucky escape and hope to work for someone with a little more courtesy. Good luck.

wait a couple of days and then call them-
if at all possible set up a second interview - not for late in the afternoon- it's always better to have the interview in the AM because people tend to become preoccupied in the pm. I'm tired- I've had a long day- oh I have to stay for this one last person-etc good luck

If you were still a candidate you would have heard something by now or gotton some response to your communications. It sounds like they may have already hired someone else and wont tell you one way or the other until they are satisfied the one they hired will work out. You should keep looking for other opportunities.

You've done about all that it's reasonable to do. Either she hasn't made a decision yet, or someone else got the job. Either way. not a lot more you can do.
Good luck.

After a few more days make one more phone call for an inquiry. If you don't hear back, I wouldn't count on it.
