Boston is just not realistic. New Haven is doable, but it would suck. A friend of mine did this, except in reverse (he lived in Manhattan and took the train every day to New Haven) for about a year and then quit b/c he couldn't stand the stress and wasted time anymore. Look into CT job opportunities.

Work in New Haven, possibly Hartford.

You would spend way too much time commuting each day. I work in Manhattan and we used to have a woman in my office who was commuting from Stamford (which is only half the distance to New Haven). Her commute was 2 hours each way--she basically didn't have a life Monday through Friday outside of working and commuting a total of 4 hours every day.

She ended up quitting after a few months and found a new job in CT.

If you are going to base Boston/Manhattan based on the commute, Manhattan is cheaper since you have the Metro-North Railroad there vs. Amtrak.

But a lot of posters have suggested New Haven and I agree. New Haven is a sizable city in terms of job opportunities. And if not New Haven, then consider Stamford since that is also another city with many companies calling it their headquarters. And if your expertise is insurance.....then Hartford is where you HAVE to be.

You're going to commute to either Manhattan or Boston? You seen the price of gas lately?

I would suggest Manhattan that way you can just hop on the metro and it brings you right to Manhattan.
