I am buying a PS3 for my son, but he doesn't have an HD TV. Is it worth it?

That's cool. The games are really all that matters. He has a Wii (that he doesn't play) and has had a ps2 for years. I was just really wondering if the ps3 was any better than the ps2 since he doesn't have an HD TV. Are the ps3 games that much better than the ps2? is graphics the only difference between the systems?

Yes, a PS3 is worth the money if you don't have a PS3. And the people that say that the PS3 sucks are only saying that because they can't afford it yet, or they are Xbox 360 fanboys, so don't pay them any attention.
An HDTV is not needed for the PS3 either. You can use any T.V. as long as it has the proper connections. But in my opinion, to get the most out of the PS3 a HDTV would be good to get.
And if you can't really afford a HDTV in the stores, I recommend ShopNBC.com. It's a home shopping network and they even have a T.V. channel as well. They allow you to make 6 interest free payments on ANY T.V. I use ShopNBC.com all the time and they make it easy for you to get nearly anything you want at discounted prices.

Depends on the games he wants to play.
Even with a regular TV, he'll still get better graphics from the PS3 than those that the previous generation of consoles had. However to get the full enjoyment from the blu-ray movies that PS3 is capable of playing, a HDTV is all but required. They'll still work on a regular TV, but they won't be any better than a normal DVD...
So, it's back to the games. If there are enough games to keep him happy, that's all that really matters. HD is not required to have fun, after all. ;-)

Yeh 4 particular, usual television's can not particular how massive the images are and thats a similar for different HD waiting consoles.. you'll want to purchase a HDMI cable lead in case you wanna use the HD decision and make certain yer flat exhibit screen television is HD waiting.. wish that facilitates.

By all means yes. PS3 35 times stronger than PS2. Regarding TV - I've got a good standard 100hz flat CRT TV - the picture is amazing.

The graphics will definately be better, but be careful of getting rid of his curent PS2. If you buy a PS3 don't buy the 40GB because he won't be able to play his old PS2 games on it:

You dont need to have an HDTV to use a PS3. If you want my opinion, dont buy a PS3, they are not worth it. Way too expensive and not that great.

Doesn't matter, i've seen them played on HD and they STILL look crappy. Save the money and get an xbox 360 with call of duty 4 or halo 3 or mass effect....
Ps3's are total wastes of money...
