I am new to this and now wish to connect my Yamaha keyboard to the computer with a view to play, record and edit, copy and change the recorded music about. What will I need?

Audio Editor it so Edit WAV files, as in rips fromCD etc.
Sequencer is a MIDI application for using with a MIDI keyboard, so probably this is more what you need
MOSE sequencer can also add an audio track from a mic etc for voice tracks too

Audio editors are for manipulating waveforms and such. Cubase/Cakewalk/etc are mainly software sequencers which allow you to create music, usually via midi data.
