Wierd statistic: 40+ percent of the American population goes to Church. Less than 5% are Biologists.
It could be interpreted that Christians are just not scientific, or maybe not as educated.
But could there be another underlying reason for this? Could it be that the Institutions hold to a pre-determined belief, and that they automatically discriminate and try to weed out those who do not share the same view?

Girl Wonder - (I did by the way) I dare you to play the Devil's Advocate, cram on Intelligent Design Arguments, and try to debate a Biology professor in class or the Caf. See what happens.
That is about the fastest ticket to being ostracized you can buy.

Your logic needs a little work my friend. You have not shown any correlation of the two statistics.

That's total bunkum. America's institutions of higher learning have always advocated and protected academic freedom. That's why we have such diversity of opinion in the USA.
When will you Christians get it through your heads that real knowledge is not about belief. The actual truth does exist, but it can't be found in a glorified collection of bronze age superstitions. Truth and reality are NOT about proper personal opinion, regardless of the fact that every person has the right to believe whatever they wish. If you had a half-decent education, you'd understand that. The only people who are persistently whining about evolution are the same ones who prefer to imagine the 3500 year old superstitions in Genesis are true. Please get yourselves a real education or simply grow up. Either way, you will inevitably discover that real objective truth has nothing whatever to do with unsubstantiated superstitious belief. Because public ridicule is the only effective response to deliberate willful ignorance, Intelligent Designers and Creationists -- those who actively seek to drag humanity back into the Dark Ages -- deserve every bit of scorn they receive.

It's the first option. Though, it is quite understandable to try and blame the community's shortcomings on an outside source.
Edit:
If you are going to argue intelligent design in a Bio class you deserve to be ostracized just as I would deserve it if I tried to argue that invisible faeries hold us to the ground instead of gravity in a Physics class...

It's not a cause/effect, rather, it's a correlation. The fact is, religiousness increases as education decreases. That's not bias, it's statistics.
Religion equals low education and low education equals fewer chances of getting into college/university. So, they don't say "Are you religious?". They say, "Are you stupid?". This weeds out religious people.
None of this post is opinion.

College is where I was allowed to be open minded and have my own views. It was encouraged, not forbidden. Have you been to college? I know of no college that doesn't allow you free speech or free thinking. It was in my primary education where I was told just to believe all that was taught to me, even though I know it was so many lies in our History classes. So colleges are just the opposite. You unlearn all the bs you learned as a child and become a critically thinking person that learns to question everything and not take things at face value.

I think you are looking at that wrong.
5% of the population being biologists really seems quite high.
40% of people expressing their faith is a lot compared to Britain- maybe one in seven people in church are biologists?
All the best

40% of the Biologists also go to church. Could that be a coincidence?

Ah the vast anti Xian conspiracy.
You've hit it on the head. The conspiracy is seen in PUBLIC displays of the Xian religion... oh, wait a sec...
Deee Deeeee DEEEEE!
Accusing a school of higher learning of this "conspiracy" stuff is not an excuse for you not to have an education.

You're almost there.
It's the churches that hold to a pre-determined belief, and they automatically discriminate and try to weed out those who do not share the same view.

Social dynamics dictate, that you are correct in your, assumption that, "weeding out" occurs, and is in fact a sign of weakness on the part of the Institutions leadership ability
This weakness creates instability, which in turn creates near worthlessness.
What a pity for us all.
