I don't know, I think it's stupid. That's what I've been wondering too.

In my opinion it is because their belief is based on a negative and it cannot be proven. To continue in the belief you must continue to disprove and debate. Otherwise you would have to at least become agnostic and say you aren't sure about the existence of God. A difficult dellimma for most people. Except there are those who love to debate or argue. Not a bad thing, unless you are like me, and don't like to argue much.
Have you ever noticed too that there are very few threads that are strictly athiestic questions? Most of those questions posed by athiests are time spent undoing or questioning other peoples beliefs. It cannot be otherwise because athiesm is more about not believing something rather than believing.
P.S. You are right about the spelling errors pointed out to you. I think many like to argue, disprove or simply be assured of "winning" in public debate.
P.P.S. I do think it IS appropriate to place athiestic questions in the R&S section.

Question Reiteration #10,280, Captain's Log: Rrrrraaaaarrrrrrrggggghhhh!
Atheism is a religious viewpoint, and we have opinions on spiritual issues as well. Our viewpoint is just as valid as any other, even if it is over represented here.

We come on here to annoy.....
Mostly, we come on here to rile all the Christees up by questioning their screwball beliefs in fairytales. It's so easy to get y'all going. Especially when you start with the bible-babble...
Sheesh, you guys are sooo funny and provide huge belly laughs.
Where else can we go and have so much fun - for FREE.

Well religious people try to do the same thing to atheists, so no one is innocent.
Truth is, I like to laugh at all the silly ignorant Christians who love to run their mouthes. Definitely makes my day.

Atheism is the rejection of religion. That means it is ABOUT religion. So this is the place to talk about it. And this question gets asked like 50 times a day. Are you guys really that insecure that you can't take criticism?

Mostly we are here to count how many times each day this question is asked. I'm guessing your question places it somewere on the high twenties for today, although I've lost count.
Cheers.

There are over 56000 questions concerning atheists on this site. Maybe if you guys weren't so curious about atheism, we wouldn't feel the need to discuss it.
UPDATE: Thanks for the thumb-down. Now I can *drink.*

Atheism is an appropriate topic in a religion section.
The more salient question is why you can't bear to see atheists in a religion section.
