WTF???? Who gives a **** if some illegal immigrants scamper across desert in the middle of the night to work for $2 an hour. Its been going on for decades. There are 12 million illegal immigrants in the US, and probably Canada as well. A lot more criminals come to Canada..its a haven for criminal activity.
would like to know how suddenly this became even relevant to the ordinary citizens of the USA??

If companies would follow laws where they have to register to make sure they are hiring legal immigrants, then there wouldn't be a problem. If people stopped hiring them, they wouldn't come. Also, the people who are hiring them are assholes just taking advantage of another human being.

The Dark Side Of Illegal Immigration
In Biting the Hand That Feeds You, Congressman Steve King of Iowa noted:
What would the May 1, 2006, illegal immigration boycott look like without illegal immigration?
The lives of 12 U.S. citizens would be saved who otherwise would die a violent death at the hands of murderous illegal aliens each day.
Another 13 Americans would survive who are otherwise killed each day by uninsured drunk driving illegals.
There would be no one to smuggle across our southern border the heroin, marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamines, which plague the United States, reducing the U.S. supply of methamphetamines that day, by 80%.
Our hospital emergency rooms would not be flooded with everything from gunshot wounds, to anchor babies, to imported diseases, to hangnails, giving American citizens the day off from standing in line behind illegals.
Eight American children would not suffer the horror as victims of sex crimes.

If you would watch the news or surf the web you would know that:
1) It is not Suddenly a problem. It's been an issue for a very long time now.
2) Illegals don't work for $2 an hour.
3) There are almost 20 million illegals
4) It IS relevant to the ordinary citizens because illegals
steal jobs, hurt the economy, increase crime rates, don't pay taxes, put a financial burden on our health care and education systems, etc. etc. etc.

It has been relevant for some time. They become a drain on our social services, thus using our tax dollars without really putting much back in. You are seeing schools become inundated with children that don't speak English and thus require more money and time that is taken away from legal students. Some schools in California are trying to get the testing to be offered in Spanish--how will that help these kids in the future? There has been an increase in diseases that are being carried over the border that have long been removed from our country. In a lot of cases jobs are being taken away from those that would do the jobs. Also another issue is insurance and driving. They are hurting people on the roads and they often do not have insurance nor are they legally allowed to drive here. Thats just to name a few.

It's roughly 12 - 20 million illegals here, we have a population of roughly 300 million. That means roughly 4% - 5% of the population of the country is not a legal citizen. That means that, given 20 people, 1 of them is probably not a citizen. The cost to enforce illegal immigration has skyrocketed to beyond what we can deal with, and a majority of the country opposes amnesty. Since most of these people are lower class, many look for government services, the cost of those services for non-citizens needs to be examined, as its quite high. A lot of the data usually gained through census and various databases is lost on them, they are off the radar. They use fake IDs, they may or may not pay taxes, they drive without licenses, etc....
Don't kid yourself, it IS a huge problem and perhaps one of the biggest we face.

It is not that it is the biggest problem.
The fact that all the politicians have decided to ignore the problem, in spite of the fact that most Americans want them to do their job and see to it that our law enforcement also does so, has many Americans seeing, some for the first time, that their so called representatives don't really represent their interests, has outraged many Americans.
For those who thought that their elected officials were at least trying to serve the people in their districts and states, this has been a very rude awakening, and has a large and growing percentage of the population questioning the loyalty of people whom they used to see as imperfect, but never disloyal.

Nothing sudden about it but now it is a nation wide problem and when the illegals burned our flag and acted out against the American people, their reign was officially coming to an end by their own acts. The free ride is over and now they can go home and demonstrate against their real opressors. Never bite the hand that feeds you! That is the lesson to be learned here, for sure! Also, it's the ordinary citizens who paid the taxes that fed them!

The US has a an open door policy with immigration borders when they need their economy to grow and no one wants to do the dirty work they will "pretend to see nothing" and then when people start complaining about so many illegals, they make it seem as if the bad guys over there are criminals for coming over to the US so that the finger doesn't get pointed at the politicians and law makers. And this is not suddenly our biggest problem, this has been going on for some time now. Even Bush's daddy had major issues with this during his presidency.

I know, I love all illegals...a lot! We should be worrying about much bigger things like saving chineese women from getting boob jobs. They are doing this all the time to look more American and OMG it's really sad. We need to start a program.

firstly i would like the people who say i was an illegal immigrant first to stop because what the heck i was born here... im American.. how the heck can you call me "illegal" pretty sure i was born here... secondly... if you say we were the originally illegal immigrants and saying we took things away from the illegal immigrants you are acknowledging that you know the illegals are doing something just that "illegal" and they should justify what they are doing by what people did hundreds of years ago...and to answer your question it has been a problem for years but the people are finally getting fed up with it!
