Anyone belong to Xtreme Fitness in Edison, NJ ??
I started my contract/membership with them 01/10/06 as a
2-year contract and the time is soon ending. Can I just call them to terminate it or will it just end automatically? Also, it's on an automatic payment schedule with a credit card that my husband has. I'm a bit embarrassed that I haven't used my membership and really don't want to show my face.
I've been a very athletic person all my life but working 10+ hour days and, well, life gets at you sometimes. Bottom line, I think i'm just very embarrassed. Will I be able to just call them to have it finalized, cancelled, be done with?

dont sweat it.....you dont need to explain anything to them other than it needs to be understood that you do not want an automatic renewal and dont expect to have any further charges to your credit card after termination of the contract....it should canx autmatically but these things can be tricky...some places will automatically renew you and keep charging you......as far as not using the membership thats your business...all they wanted was your money and they got it so what do they care?.....call em up and verify your contract canx and nonrenewal

You better call them to cancel when you membership expire. Most club hire a 3rd party membership service company to run the dues, and if they have your credit card they will probably re-up it on 1/10/08. I would actually send them a letter to ask for a cancelation at the end of the contract so that if there is any dispute you have a proof you asked to stop the membership.

Different gyms have different rules, as stated on your original contract. My husbands gym insists on cancellation in person while when I canceled mine I had to do it in writing. Check with your gym to make sure you are doing it the proper way and that they do not do automatic renewal. You should also request a receipt to show that you have paid them in full or some sort of letter stating that your membership is canceled.

Send them a letter certified mail, return receipt. Do it now. Be sure to indicate that their authorization to automtically charge your credit card is withdrawn after the final December payment. Ask for confirmation.

If they do continue to charge the credit card, and they probably will, you can dispute the charges with the credit card company using a copy of this letter that the authorization was withdrawn.

I would send the request in writing via Registered Mail with Return Receipt to cancel the membership to be on the safe side. Don't bother calling....they'd probably renew it for another two years and deny that you ever called....Just like cell phone carriers (think: Sprint) health clubs want to keep you on forever with contracts.

Phone calls are the worst way to do anything. Terminate in writing, certified mail. Its a pain but the only way you can prove they received your termination instruction.
