like to scratch and bite my hand. He is 3 months old and I got him from the local ASPCA when he was 2 months old. Who knows when he taken from his mom. He is very affectionate because I spend a lot of time with him playing and cuddling. But I am having a hard time trying to teach him not to bite and scratch my hands. He is growing like crazy now and it hurts more every day. I do not hit him as I don't believe in it. But my hands are getting torn up. Any suggestions?

Hon,Kittens,as well as cats love to "play" with things that move....your hands move.....If you allow the kitty to grab your hands, don't pull them away(a first reaction) but hold kitty and firmly tell kitty NO,several times. It will take a fair amount of time before kitty understands what you want and hopefully finds another moving thing to play with...like a ball on a string!
P.S. kittys also love Bare (under the blanket) feet!!!

Try saying ouch really loud and walking away or divert his attention to a toy. Like when you are about to do something that would cause him to bite your hand have a toy available and let him play with that when he seems to want to bite you. when he is scratching you maybe you can try to take him to his scratching post. Try some treats when he does good.

All I know is I had a cat that I allowed to be very aggressive with me and I tolerated it and thought it was cute until he got older and he thought of me as his playmate. So when I would go to pet him he would roll over and start scratching me and biting me and to him he was playing but to me it hurt and it was not cute at all. So I would try to divert his attention and do not hit him, I tried this also and it made it worst. To make a long story short I gave him away, and just recently adopted a kitten that is totally opposite of him. Hope it works for you.

You're going to have to thump his nose: That's how a momma cat tells her kittens to 'be good'.

At 3 months old, he's going to have a lot of energy anyway, so that won't help matters at all.
