First answer is entirely right -- cardio is the only way you can burn that many calories a day.
When I was stationary biking and watching what I ate, I lost an AMAZING amount of weight, however as soon as I gave up the routine, I started gaining immediately.
They make stationary bikes for just about any body type so you should try that out. It is well worth the money spent and an easy exercise. I started out biking for 15 minutes a day. Eventually, I jumped to a half hour, then it was an hour, and then I started doing it for two hours on days when I had nothing else to do. I would just grab a book or put on a movie and chill.
After I had been biking for so long, I found that jogging wasn't so bad. I usually had problems with it because of asthma, but cardio really helped my heart and my lungs, so I was able to jog about 2 miles a day without any problems.

The best exercise to lose 500 calories a day is to push yourself back from the table sooner and eat 500 calories less. You would probably have to do 10,000 situps to burn off 500 calories. The best exercise is walking for an hour a day, but even that will not burn off 500 calories a day. You need to cut 500 calories out of your diet.

Cardio for an hour..jump roping or running. Both are great.
What I do is I run on the treaddmill for 15 minutes, then jump rope for 15 min, then back to the treadmill for another 15 and then back to jump rope.

running is definitely the best. Swimming is a good workout, but since your body is horizontal, your heart does not have to work as hard to pump blood.
