OF COURSE IT'S STUPID!
No way can anyone with enough brains to carry on a conversation would believe any of that stuff! Especially not people like Cruise, Travolta, Seinfeild, K.Alley. Maybe someone like Nolte or Spears would get make sense getting into it. But then I guess they would end up being more like Cruise, Travolta, Seinfeild, K.Alley.
Of course there is also the thing that what you are looking at is really secret information only for the top members. No scientologist believes it or even knows about it. And the ones at the top say its misquoted references.
Maybe thats like telling christians that they believe in ritual symbolic cannibalism and drinking blood. And they drown babies to save them. They believe that suddenly talking in some strange language that no one can understand is proof of non-human beings invading their body. It happens all the time in their church meetings. And they want everyone in their church to give them 10% of everything they have. Not to mention it being made up by some magical zombie carpenter.
Its all in the wording. Keep telling christians thats what they believe and keep demanding how anyone possibly could. Maybe thats not a good comparison. What's your religion and I will take a stab at wording it in a "how the **** can you believe" South Park cartoon parody version. >:)

Because the Cult of Scientology starts out by telling people only what they can comfortably hear... until they're hooked. They don't disclose the dead alien story until the "member" is fully indoctrinated, brainwashed, hypnotised and scared for their eternity.

People will believe what they want to believe, because believing that way works for them somehow. That is their right, as granted by our constitution. That right ends where negatively impacting the lives of others begins, and the determination of negative impact is up to the individual BEING impacted. I may have severe problems accepting the premises of Scientology, but hey, to each their own, just don't try to involve me in any way.

It's the brainwashing. I know the whole organization sounds ridiculous to people who have exposure to information about it beforehand, but to an unsuspecting victim, their brainwashing techniques can be particularly powerful.
Scientology exerts control over its members by means of typical cult tactics, including but not limited to controlling information about internal doctrine & criticism of the organization, severely restricting social contact outside the cult (including the practice of “disconnecting” with any family who question the credibility & trustworthiness of the cult), creating an “us against them” mentality by villainizing a specific out-group (for Scientology, it’s psychiatrists), & claiming all those outside the cult are unenlightened.

Yeah, South Park had several episodes on this idea. They even got Isaac Hayes to quit over the incident.
