For one thing, I could not get my head around the concept that Christ had to die for my sins to keep me from burning in hell for all eternity. The more I thought about it, the less loving God seemed to be and the more barbaric and vengeful he became. The whole concept just bothered me. I prayed. I questioned. I thought. I read the Bible again, and found myself feeling more and more disillusioned about everything. Nothing about Christianity made one iota of sense to me.
Eventually, I considered myself a theist -- I believed in A god, I just wasn't sure which one, and I didn't follow a specific religion. Some time later, I realized I was an atheist.

Christianity, as it's put forth since the beginning of the Catholic Church at it's roots and onward to the schisms that lead to the other churches of the day, makes no logical sense in the belief of an omnipotent creator being and subsequent concepts of Jesus.
I believe Jesus may have walked the planet, might have been like the Buddha or other wise teacher, but not what he's been turned into.
Having said that, though, it's important to remember that for some people, these religions work and by them some people learn wisdom, altruism, compassion and so on, so it's not wise to beat this horse to death, otherwise it would be dualistic and THAT is just as illogical.

The way so many Christians are arrogant enough to truly believe that their god is the only real god and that everyone else's god (to which the believers of have the same amount and type of proof as Christians) are false and are simply the "Devil" misleading them. The way so many Christians kill in the name of their god simply because the other people do not agree with their beliefs. The way so many Christians are taught to ignore any other facts except those in a book interpreted multiple times by human beings and being put off as "God's Word". The way so many Christians will preach love and practice hate on a regular basis. The way so many Christians are willfully ignorant to anything that is not from their book.

I was going to say lack of evidence, but that's become a bit cliché at this point. So I'll have to say...
The fact that believing anything in Christianity is bound to contradict something else in it. Remember, God wants you to love your family and to tear you away from it. He's the nicest anyone can possibly be, so like him or you're going to that bad place where everyone slaps each other with fish, according to Veggie Tales...!

I've never agreed with the religion, but I'm disgusted by the blind obedience to a deity responsible for genocide and murder (flood myth, story of Sodom and Gomorrah, Babel, Plagues, etc...) on a number of occasions throughout the mythology. I also don't agree with the concept of Original Sin. It's the worship of a deity that tries to keep it's followers ignorant.

Atheists do not believe in god. Any god. The Christians get more attention here, because there are more of them. Also so many people who post here are from the USA which again, is supposedly 80% xian, it will appear that atheists focus all their energy on them. This is simply not true.
Atheist = No god(s). Thats it.

I wasn't indoctrinated as a child, and once I'd developed critical thinking skills the complete absence of evidence was enough to deter me from any religion.

I cannot abide the fact that a religion would claim to be the only way to God. That makes no sense.
I see the bible used as justification to spread hate.
I see idiotic religious dogma affecting life saving research and women's rights.
I see people judging everyone who thinks differently, even other Christians.
I see fear of an imaginary place used to control people through fear.
