Poverty can be eradicated by proper understanding among human societies beyond borders and proper distribution of the surplus food storage through the world. Religion does not help so long as it is an icon for group identity and it sticks to Books like Bible and Koran or Torah without the basic preparedness to change its contents even if logic and science demands.

Religion cant solve world poverty. People helping each other can solve world poverty though. Religion will still segregate people who belive in other religions. where if the human race put religion aside and just helped out for the sake of humanity the world would be a better place. I think religion is the downfall for a lot of countries and lives.

A 2006 UN University study reported that 85% of the world's wealth is owned by 10% of the world's population and 50% of the world's population own 1% of the world's wealth.

Why don't the 10% share? Because they crave pleasure too much. They want a fleet of cars, and a yacht and a jet and a mansion and a holiday villa, and a load of servants etc. etc.

With billions suffering from malnutrition, a lack of clean water, preventable disease, poor education facilities etc. it is a real shame the richest 10% aren't intelligent enough to have adopted the Christian/Buddhist/etc. ideals of charity and non-attachment to wealth.

"it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go into the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 19:24, Mark 10:235, Luke 18:25

"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." Luke 16:13

I don't think it can solve it, since it is second nature for people to spend on themselves. But it can help.

Only God can solve all the world's problems successfully & long-term. His plan has always been to ultimately have the earth restored to perfection, along with all of the creatures upon it. The reason it seems to be taking so long, is because He is 'leaving no stone unturned'... ?In other words, He is ensuring that --in the future-- there will not be ANY question whether man could have successfully ruled himself. That way, IF anyone ever chooses to cause trouble again, that one will have NO excuse whatsoever, & will be removed before being allowed to do any real dammage to anyone else.

Man-made religions cannot read people's hearts, or restore Earth to perfection, or the rest of creation upon it. The reason there are such a variety of religions is because they all seek to worship their own chosen ways, instead of following God's instructions. So, God would actually have to break His own principles --& be divided within Himself-- to stand behind them... That, however, is the ONE thing that God can *not* do. (It couldn't work anyway, as they are all at odds with each other.)

Notice just a few of the warnings in God's Word:

“Test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world." (1 John 4:1)

"Make Sure of all things; hold fast to what is fine." (1 Th 5:21)

The only thing that can Eliminate poverty in the world would be if we went away from currency and reverted back to a barter system. Then the Lazy would die out and the ones willing to work could trade there goods for food and shelter.

Thats the way The Chuck lives.

I think religion actually benefits from poverty - poor people are usually not educated people and uneducated people are easy to convince.

The power structures of the world that ensure poverty have been around as long as religion has - they are intricately involved. While it may seem to want to 'fix' the problem, it is certainly also the crux of the problem.

(religion is about money and power)

Jesus said "the poor you will have with you always". Human nature will not solve poverty. To the people that criticize the church, how much have you done? There are some Christian organizations that have done some good. But it is never going to be enough. There are world governments that keep their citizens poor and they control all the money. Mexico is controlled by a few families. They own all the oil in the country. Some customs officials don't even pick-up their paychecks but own mega yachts. Venezuela's leaders owns all the oil in their country. Chinas government has so much money but little goes to the people. How can the church get enough money for all these people whose governments rob them?

Considering Poverty is there because you can only have a limited amount of wealth in the world at one time, and some have more then others...no religion cant do squat. Theres only so much money. And I like living my comfy middle class life style. I certinly well NOT give that up and DOWNgrade to lower class or even homeless, just so others will be equal to me. Im not saying this to be cruel, its just how it is. You cant just MAKE more money.

The church does a much better job of it that any government has ever done. At least with the church the people who are hungry get food and clothing, NOT a bunch of paperwork and denials because they make one dollar over the 'guidelines'.

EDIT:
United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) was onsite with food and shelter as soon as Katrina had passed. UMCOR has a worldwide mission to feed and house the homeless and hungry.
Churches DO contribute to solve world poverty.

I think that yes to a point it does, but then again what is the correct religion? There isn't any. Everyone has there own beliefs, none are right, none are wrong. Only people can solve poverty.
