Because they are idiots. If they truly believed in their own faith, they would hold a party and congragulate their loved one on a successful journey

For the same reason any funerals are solemn and sad, because while we may know that the person is now in a better place, we probably enjoyed having them with us on Earth. If I knew someone close to me was moving to China for the rest of their life and I may not see them again... wouldn't I be sad then too? They aren't even dying but I would miss them. Death means I won't see them alive again on Earth, and most people don't think they will join a dead loved one anytime soon. What a lame question to ask. Try using some common sense.

I agree, there should be rejoicing and celebration for those who have gone before us, trouble is....most people are living on a gamble.
I think it's because there is way too much emphasis on the flesh, that; and that most don't have a clue as to what eternity holds for them or their loved ones. Will they be gathered together at the banquette?
If you truly love someone then why wish for them to remain behind in this corrupt world filled with traditions of man.

I understand what your getting at about sending a love-one home. But you must realize that the person who has died will be so much missed by those who are very close to him/her . And we as human beings hate the lost of someone we loved and shared so much with . Also we hate to have to do without that person till the day we die .So the sadness is really for ourselves rather for the one who has die , we cry for our own lost . What helps us except death is the thought of that person going to some place nice and reuniting with love ones who have already gone before them .

It's sad because they'll be missing their loved ones. I think deep inside they are happy that the pain and suffering of the person who died stopped and that they are happy to where they may be.It's inappropriate to rejoice when a person dies.Christians celebrate by prayer for their departed that they may have a good journey to the heavens.

MY mothers wasn't, she died at age 48 with breast cancer. Of course it broke my heart. Her mothers, her sisters and brothers and all of her friends. She knew where she was going and she had no regrets. She enter in to the arms of the Lord, and Savior that she had lived for. The music was joyful, the service a celebration of the life she lived, the faith she had, and the hope that one day, the circle would indeed be unbroken.

Because most christians have it backwards. If they are truly going home to be with the lord you should be celebrating.Yes you should miss the person if you had a close relationship with them but you should love them enough to let them go .Most christians don't.

I don't know--wiccan funerals are a celebration of the person's life and the knowledge that they will always be with us--but then we're sincere in our beliefs, and christians just give lip service

It doesn't matter if you are a christian or not it still hurts, but the bit after the grave is the celebration that they are home.
