Here is the story. - http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071128/ap_o... I asked a question about it yesterday and the consensus seemed to be that I shouldn't lump all Xians together. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071128/ap_o... Now if that is so, why aren't more(or any that I've seen) Xian leaders distance themselves from his statement. If you don't want we atheists to lump you all together, wouldn't it make sense to make a public statement disavowing these remarks?

If there are Xian leaders criticizing this, post a link to a news story. I can't find one searching on Google News.

What does 'xian' mean?
"What does the abbreviation 'xian' mean? Is it an insult?"
When writing the name "Christ," it is quite common to abbreviate it to X or x, representing the first letter (chi) of the Greek XPICTOC khristos. For example, "xmas" is a common abbreviation of "Christmas." "Xian" just means "Christian."
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the use of the abbreviation "xian" or "xtian" for "Christian" dates back at least as far as 1634. Before that, it was more usual to take the first two letters of XPICTOC, and write "xpian" for "Christian." Priests would record Christenings using the shorthand "xpen" or "xpn."
So no, it's not an insult.

I don't follow Roberts or any of the crap he peddles. Its all slander and lies. Those that follow him follow a false idol more or less.
To those of us who don't care about such people, we don't pay any attention to them. So since we don't pay attention, how can we now what a person like Roberts is doing?
All these so called mega churches come down one way or another. They are all scandals, thefts, etc. Just cause someone uses the name religion to run a scam does not mean religion is bad.
If that was the case... then the web, medical doctors and on down the list all would be bad as well. As there are scammers in all fields out there.
Don't look to those on TV or such as the leaders of true Christians... cause you will be mislead if you believe they are.

What would be the point of prayer if you don't get an answer? I can't fault a man for getting a message from God and acting on it. Quite likely, the message is, "Stop getting rich from your ministry."
What seems suspicious is the specificity of the message. Oral Roberts claims the role of a prophet who receives a specific message from God to bring to the world. That implies a personal holiness and authority that does not match his opulent lifestyle.
Cheers,
Bruce

Xian is a Chinese Dynasty, which has nothing to do with Oral Roberts University.
I think you mean "Xtian," which is a rude and disrespectful "abbreviation" for Christian.

Sometimes we christians can't recognize which is from God and which is not and make statements based on what we percieve from with in us. And we say God told me, you or whatever when in reality it is just our mind thinking differently. So because of these, many preachers say God told me something is gonna happen and when it doesn't work, it makes them look like liars.

Our group of churches have known that there were problems there for years. I find it funny that everyone else is just now finding out about it a generation later.
This is really a recent development in very old news.

All too many times Christians have spoken out about Oral Roberts and his false claims. What's your point, if you haven't heard the comments, then you haven't been listening very long.

This is whats called turning a deaf ear and a blind eye.... It's somewhat like turning the other cheek but it's done for different reasons -- like hypocrisy.

wouldn't it be indirectly criticising god? I don't think they are allowed to do that (for fear of burning in hell, blahdeblah)
Look dude I don't believe in a god - I'm just saying if there was a god and he talked to this guy *oral* (is that really his name? must've been born in the 60's to seriously doped up parents...) and they criticised him - then their *merciful* god would *probably* punish them....anyway I can't be bothered I need a cig.
