Think about it. If you believe that He created us, and that He is omniscient (knows everything), then He would have known beforehand that His creation would disappoint him. He would have even known in what ways man would do so.
So why bother creating anything less than a perfect being?
And why be so angry about it?

Scott, I asked this because my closest friend is a Christian who attends Bible study twice a week. When I asked him how it went, he replied, "Oh, the usual. God's always angry..." So I just figured I'd ask why that is.

The old testament God is so angry because before Jesus walked the earth
man was condemned to die and God only aided his chosen people the Hebrews/Jews.When Adam was created he was already a mature grown man so he had no margin for error. When Adam sinned God judged him immediately because he was already mature. Jesus the second Adam came on the scene through the virgin birth .Jesus grew up from a baby to a man.
When God sees a christian he sees JJesus and because Jesus had to
actually mature God is more merciful to us than he is to the old testament
saints.

He gave us free will also the God of the OT is the same one in the NT
You have seen nothing yet wait until armageddon when at last he cuts of wickedness from the earth! His rage on this world that is ruled by Satan will be enormous.
Religion, commerce, political empires will come to a big collapse that Satan has puppeteered for so long.

People have always made up their own gods, and the Jews were no exception. The god in the OT was the god of the Hebrews (Jews). These people were fighters and very good at it. When you study the god of various people you can quickly notice that their god is always so much like the people who believe in that god, but only the top persons know the truth that they made that god to make the lower level members easier to control. That is what religion is about, control and now taking your money..

So, in this question you are just trying to make a point, you really don't want an answer do you? God gives us (yet again I have to make this point) free will, the abillity to make our own decisions. Yet God promises consequences for these decisions. What you call God's "anger" isn't "anger" at all, but direct consequences of choice. God was demonstrating that all choices have consequences and sin must be punished.

Only God knows....
God wasn't always angry but think of the times He was...Since the Israelites often rejected Him for false gods they could see...didn't He have a good reason to be angry?! God isn't Barney okay, He is a God of discipline as well.

He was angry because he was dealing with mankind, and let's face it, mankind is a bunch of unmitigated idiots. Always has been, always will be. That would make ANYONE angry. Individuals may be intelligent, but mankind is patently stupid, and if you have any contention with that statement, look around you with a discerning eye, and see how the species behaves as a whole. The prosecution rests.

When God did the creation bit He was in his teenage years and the hormones were raging, now He's mellowed and can't be bothered. He'll probably have another go at it in an Aeon or two...

Because He has an anger management problem.
Really, all this thunder and rage, and smiting the firstborn, and fire and brimstone, and all the other stuff, won't do.
Serious therapy issues here.
So, God made man in His image, and man (or men) typically have anger management problems, therefore God has anger issues.
Mind you, I wouldn't like to be His key worker.

Because WE aren't omniscient. Unless we each make our choice (you know ... that old "free will" stuff), then the reward means nothing to the believer and the punishment of an unbeliever isn't just.
God recognizes the fact that we are not robots; to FORCE Himself onto us isn't the way He rolls.
