I have a feeling the place I am interviewing with will give me the offer that day, since it is a second interview and they originally wanted me to start in mid Dec (I told them I would need to give 2 weeks). However, if I tell my current job that I am going to a dentist appt and then put my notice in shortly after (to make sure I give 2 full wks) wont they know I lied about the appt? I dont want to leave a bad impression there, what can I do?

Yup, they'll know. But it probably won't really leave a bad impression, it's so commonly done. They might just say something like "a dentist appointment, sure" if you turn in your notice the next day, but won't likely suddenly see you as a dishonest person or something.

You could get around that by saying you have a personal emergency and have to leave work early or leave for a few hours - that way you wouldn't be lying to them.

Never lie.
just tell them you are leaving for personal business. It's really none of their business what you are doing and lying could earn you a bad recommendation. it's also possible they've already to check with your current employer about your work history and then lying would only lead to hard feelings.

Don't lie, just tell them you need to leave work. It's none of their business what it is for. If they ask, be vague and say "An appointment." That's the truth after all, an appointment for another job! LOL

I wouldn't lie. Tell them that you have personal business to attend to in the morning and you will be in when you are finished. If they have a problem with that, then you shouldn't be worried about lying to them.
