I know better than anyone what I really hate. Things like chocolates, cheesecake, really good-looking blond guys..... Oops, back to the question:

Why can't I use my free will to choose my own punishment?

You would be able to choose between burning and rotting in Hell forever, except for one thing: You will be doing both.

Plus you'll have worms.

What? Not a nice way to spend eternity? Yeah well --

Having emotions of hate and doing naughty things... you're already choosing your own punishment, via karmic imprints... and it won't be fun... now that I've wee wee'd on your fun you may now slap me.

I would despise being stranded on a tropical island ... with only a tanned, strapping jungle boy to protect me from the wild beasts each night ....
That would really be punishment ....
:( Ohh, noooo .....

haha...thumbs up for creativity.

But to answer seriously, you do choose your eternal punishment. Jesus said, "47"As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. 48There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day." (John 12)

We choose our own destiny...Jesus will save us from the consequences of sin if we let Him. But He won't force anything upon us.

You can choose to jump off of my office buildings roof, at the 40th floor, but you don't get to choose the consequences.

Just how things work.
