The Bible contains a rule which prohibits doubting it, plus a clause stating it is infallible in its entirety.
If you even begin to doubt one tiny thing in the Bible you are already in violation.
Oh, and by the way, every jot and tittle must be taken literally, it says so in the preface.
That pretty much squlches all atheistic notions in one fell swoop doesn't it.

You have to remember that some of the gospels of which the bible is made of where written years after Jesus Crucifixion, and some by people who weren't even there. By the time Constantine decided to unify the different religious sects that comprised Christianity there where literally hundreds of gospels. Story goes that they placed all the gospels on a window sill and by the next morning all those that where still on the window sill where the ones that they used on the bible, the others where deemed Apochyph gospels (If I misspelled it please forgive me)
But I don't' think ALL believers take the bible literally. Some do of course. Still it is a rather interesting book to read.

I don't believe the bible is the true word of God however it can be argued that the word of God is infallible but humans (since humans are imperfect) have translated and interpreted it incorrectly.
Christians, like any other religion (or non-religion), can only try their best to live a life they think God wants. I think we should be wary of anyone that claims to have direct knowledge into the mind of God.

You have to look at the context to determine what is literal and what is figurative, just like any other work of literature. The Bible was God breathed but written by men who would use figures of speech and such and so you have to understand the context in which the scriptures were written. For example, there are history books that compare the people to animals, Winston Churchill to a bulldog for instance, but I know that he is not, that the comparison is a figure of speech.

Well if you are a REAL CHRISTIAN then the whole bible should be taken literally. You can't pick and choose what parts of the Bible you like and want to live by. You should live your life based on the entire Bible.

God's word is infallible. However, some Christians, and non-Christians, want to pick it apart, and only follow what they think they should. You have to take the Bible as a whole.

That particular document has been interpreted, and edited, BY MAN, and is therefore subject to both translational errors and idiological agendas. Any document that has been put through these proceses has to be taken with a "Small Siberian salt-mine". (And we KNOW how big the salt-mines are THERE!) What it amounts-to is MANS INTERPRETATION of gods word. Accept it as that, or believe it as you choose to, you will do as you feel right in any case.

If you read the Bible God's wisdom will unfold
People are at different stages in life so things are revealed at the proper time
that's why you can read it all of your life and still learn something each time
God is Infallible but Humans aren't
your question is comparing 2 different things and tryin to make it 1

People take the bible and interpret the way they understand it. Look at how many different versions of the bible there are. There are many, many versions of the bible. So there are many, many ways the bible can be interpreted. I think that some people interpret it as to how it best fits in their lifestyle.
