I am 19, and I am a firm Christian but, I have been reading about weird stuff called 'Alchemy' then there is the whole witchcraft senerio. I don't put it into practice but it is just fun to read. It has a bunch of weird things in there that just make me laugh. So basicly I "study" it just for laughs. Is this wrong for a Christian to be doing?

I am very stubborn and don't get influenced easily so I am not worried about converting. But someone said about "If I meet someone who is practicing that I can use what I've learned to convert them to Christianity." I never tought of that... I'd be like Bond, James Bond!

There are Christians who have studied this out--some even *lived* it out already. My feeling is that they've done the study so we don't have to. When you bring these things into your home, you also bring the evil spritual realm with it. You will notice that it gets hard to sleep at night. Something is chasing you. That's God. He loves you and wants you to turn from your sin and live for Him.

When people in my life have gotten involved with things like this, I've seen it backfire big time. You open the door for the devil to be able to play. (Remember King Saul and the witch of Indor?) If you get involved in this... it is one reason the Lord will not answer your prayers. See Ezekiel 14:3: "...these men cherish their idols and set up a block over which they fall into sin. Should I let them come to Me for help?" The answer is you will have to leave this foolishness and turn to Him with all your heart--only then will He answer. Then, you could do what the Bible says in Ephesian 5:10 "Test things to see if they please the Lord." Pray and ask Him to show you what is right.

One of my favorite Bible verses is: "Whether therefore you eat or drink or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God." The final question I would like you to consider: Is this to the Glory of God?

May the Lord lead you as you make this decision.

P.S. Looking at your other questions....Hmmm... you say you're a "firm christian?" And by their fruits you will know them.

I don't think it is wrong. I would encourage you though to find the points that are wrong and find scriptures that back up why they are wrong. make sure you pray that what you read and study in Alchemy does not lead you away from God.
I think that all Christians should have a working knowledge of other religions. Otherwise we are stating that others are wrong without knowing what they believe (although they still are wrong). But they (other religions) will be more willing to listen if we show them that we respect them enough to take time to learn about what they believe and why.

Alchemy was a sincere attempt to understand the nature and properties of different forms of matter. They just began with a few unfortunate assumptions. It eventually developed into the modern science of chemistry. Nature magic uses similar but more generalized assumptions. Studying them can provide insights into the nature of human belief systems, as well as entertainment to those who don't believe in those specific systems. Just be careful that you don't draw parallels to your own faith. If you're not careful, you could repeat history and turn into-- a scientist! [dramatic musical sting]

As a Christian myself, I find questions like this being asked all the time by other Christians. Some will say you will go to hell others will say it's OK if you don't practice it.

Whatever, as long as you are comfortable and have a clear sense of faith in the Lord Jesus then you are OK. The key word is moderation. Everything is bad if you over indulge, just remember that.

Dangerous.
What you see and hear goes directly into your mind.
If it isn't in your mind, you cannot recall it, or think about it. It is a slow seduction towards it. This same thing holds true for everything. Advertisers know this, and millions are spent to socialize people like that.
Jesus did warn us to take care about what we see, and what we hear.
If you are doing such studying for the purpose of apologetics, then it does have a use. If indeed it is just for laughs, I would say you are learning it.

There are folks that actually believe in that witchcraft stuff and they should be respected here in YA just as you should good Christian. Saying you laugh at my beliefs isn't a smart or respectful thing. I don't laugh at yours...though I vehemently disagree with them. PEACE!

No. It is good to know how your enemy operates. You can gain some good ammunition here. It would be good for you to study demonology too. Look for an author by the name of Derek Prince. He teaches how to cast out demons. What I disagree with about Prince is that he teaches corporate deliverance. It is something that worked for him, but I feel that it is a special impartation that is not given to everyone.

Alchemy dates back to the Middle Ages and is very funny.
People thought they could turn lead into gold.
I don't think this really goes against any religion but since you're calling it "witch craft" I think it might be.

It's funny, but don't get sucked into it, sometimes it can get really "interesting."

Expanding your mind is never wrong. Be inquisitive, explore other ideas. If what you believe is true, then reading and studying contrary opinions will only strengthen your faith. If your beliefs are false, the exploring and studying may well lead you to the truth.

God created us with minds; we should use them.
