In any State, I guess you can't, the only way you can do it is if you support that person, if you are providing housing in your own place. If that is the case, then you have the ball on your court, because that family member does not get that kind of help, he/she would have to do something about it. Tough love to the ones that think life is easy and they can do whatever they want. But, if you do not support her needs and her addictions, there's nothing you can do, but lots of Prayers perform miracles.

It sounds like you love your sister and her kids.If it is possible for you to take custody of the kids, then petition the courts to do it so that way she doesn't put them in the wrong hands. As far as making her go to rehab is concerned,it won't do any good until she is ready to.It will just waste your time and money. There are steps you can take however.First, when checking into rehabs, see what their policies are about involuntarily committing her. Then, they can tell you what legal work needs to be done for your state.I would also gather other family members and see if they support your decision. If you present an united front to her,she is less likely to try to push the blame on anyone else, and more likely to get the help she needs.

You can contact narcotics anonymous or go to an OPEN meeting (they have a website and you can get their phone number for information on meetings in your area).... You will find out how to do an intervention.

An intervention is a way to tell the person who is addicted "yes we care, but we are not helping you anymore and you have to help yourself from now on".

You can also do a yahoo search on Intervention Drug Addiction to see what i'm talking about.
