I asked one of my aunts if she wanted to go ice skating with me, and she made a comment that it'll look funny if I do it in my hijab/abayah. I don't think it's a big deal, I am just going out to have fun, and being a Muslim shouldn't stop me from doing so. I'm not denying that others might think it looks funny, I'm sure they will but... whatever lol.

What do you think?

I do not think you will look weird if you are wearing hijab and want to go skating..Tell you the truth what I think is weird is women who dress in basically nothing on the ice..Atleast you will be warm!!!
No matter who we are or what we are doing there will always be someone who thinks we look weird or we think they look weird.

wolfkare... you are dead wrong in what you are saying. She can go to the skating rink without a mahram, That is if she has the permission of her Mahram be it her husband or dad etc... A woman is not suppose to travel alone in Islam without a Mahram and travel is defined as going more then 83KM in distance and or a day and nights worth of travel.. You should not tell that woman can not go out in their city alone because there are hadiths which state they can..

Well, I wouldn't worry about the looking weird part. I'm the type of person who could care less about what people think I'm wearing on or off the ice.

BUT

As an ice skater myself, I do caution about wearing anything too loose and too long that will hinder your skating . . . not so much at the top, but towards your legs/feet. You may get your blade caught in your abayah or possibly even trip on it . . . or if you fall and try to get up, you must be extra careful not to step on it to make it rip. Also, when you fall, it's possible you may get wet and I don't know how quickly the material dries (for instance, wet jeans stay wet for a long time!).

I'm just trying to state some safety/functional issues you may want to consider.

In any case, do have fun skating!

in an abayah..i wouldnt think its safe. why dont you wear loose pants and a shirt that covers down your knees?
I go ice skating all the time in hijab. its super fun!! you should do it. And btw we always look "funny" to the public because we wear hijab. Whether we're skating or reading a book. I take pictures of people when they stare at me with my cameraphone. I have about 200 pictures in my collection.

As salaam alaykum wa rahmatuillahi wa barakatu

LOL No! Of course you won't look weird skating in the clothing prescribed to us by Allah the Most High! A woman properly dressed can never look strange to the One we all love most, and that's what counts.

i think its OK and cool . but maybe you want to consider wearing a long shirt with pants you don't want to fall. its hard to skate with a abayah

no I do not think it will look funny. Just be careful and if you are not experienced, stay close to the edge of the rink. Being muslim does not mean you cannot have fun.

I think it would look beautiful with a long flowing hijab...find something trimmed in lace so it looks like snow flakes around your face.

Have fun and never worry what others think.

Sister, I'm really smiling at the imagination. I myself wear abaya but never went for skating... you give it a go and let me know how was the experience :)
