He may be bored. Try to do at least 10 minutes of interactive play every day followed by a few treats to reward the positive experience and reward your cats hunting skills.
When you cat bites you or scratches, try not to move or jerk away, and make a loud yowling noise similar to what a cat that has been hurt would make. Like a sharp high pitched "ow". I used this method with my male cat. Sometimes he just doesn't realize he is hurting me until I make the noise and then he stops and looks at me kind of scared; not scared of me, but by his action.
He just has a lot of energy and is learning. Be patient with him.
When he is trying to play rough, ignore him. He will learn that when he plays rough, there will be no play.

Cats are unique creatures.
If you watch kittens in their natural environment with their mother (most of us don't get the chance to ever do this) but you will see times when they bite and claw each other (not drawing blood) and it almost seems as if they are fighting. This is natural. Mother is teaching them how to hunt and ultimately defend themselves.
My advice is to pet and adore your kitten when she is sleepy and needs attention. And for the times when she is rowdy, get out a little toy mouse or a few feathers and play with her. Activities such as hunt & seek or bat at the feather are great releases for their playful energy.
Hope this helps, and congrats on your new kitty!

She is wresting just like she would do with another kitten. Kittens are so energetic, This is just play. As she matures she will calm down. I love this stage of kitten-hood. go to: about.com and enter "getting your first cat" in the search box. It will give you tons of information. Have fun with your kitten.
As far as the licking, it probably has a pacifier effect for her.

Kittens don't understand not to bite or fight, she will grow out of it, she is teething also and her teeth are bothering her, when she is in the mood to fight- get some toys that she can attack. As kittens grow into cats, they will settle down eventually. Kittens are hipper like kids. Spend alot of time with her and say NO when she bits and put her down. she will learn no means no. good luck!

I have one just like her. He gets his "play" button stuck ON and it just escalates until he's looking for bare skin to bite.
The only thing--and I'm not an expert--I got bitten this morning, is to have a toy nearby. I switch his attention from biting me to biting the toy.
If he refuses to settle down, I pop him into the bathroom. In a couple of minutes, I'll hear him meowing, and I'll know he's got his groove back. I let him out and he's calm again.
The kitty isn't trying to be mean. She's playing. That's how kitties play--war wrestle bite games. So get a feather toy or a laser pen. Just make sur ethat the toy in her mouth isn't your hand. She's got to learn that she can't bite. My older cat bites, but very gently and that is to warn you that she's tired of you touching her.
Take care, and have fun with that kitty!

Sounds like she's playing but don't encourage it if she bites and scratches you. Continuing to play anyway will make your cat continue the habits when they're big. Not good because it really hurts when my cat comes over and he decides to grab my feet and start gnawing on my toes. I learned this lesson too late. If they bite when playing you are supposed to stop right away so they learn not to.

That's the way kittens are. They go through stages where you'll swear they are crazy, and the next instant be really sweet. To stop her from biting you, get yourself a squirt bottle and every time she goes to bite squirt water at her. Also, get her lots of toys to play with, and never EVER play with her with your hands. That'll encourage her to bite you even more.

My cat was like that when she was a kitten, too. She's just playing, and she will probably grow out of it. Whenever she gets frisky and play full, give her some safe kitty toys to play with instead of letting her bite you.

Nothing wrong with your kitten. Most are like that. They will grow out of it sooner or later. Its just how they play.
Licking itself and you is normal for cats, moreso for female ones. But males are at it too when they are young, in time this will change though.
Just dont worry and have patience. :)
