My Grandpa and I are trying to find a winchester model 97 trench shotgun for my dad for Christmas. I found a WWI trench shotgun, with a bayonet for $1350. It has the flaming bomb on the barrel and receiver and is marked US. Is this a good deal? The guy has 0 feedback though, is it also too good to be true? Someone advise!

It was on gunbroker, and ended with no bidders. He hasn't relisted it. He's been a member on GB since early 2006, but has no feedback. I've been in contact with the guy through emails. I'm going to try to get some credentials from him. I think I might roll the dice on this one.

The correct nomenclature for this shotgun is The U.S. M-1917. All of these shotguns had the barrel shroud & bayonet lug when issued. If it has the arsenal markings, it is probably the real deal, although these can be faked. If the deal includes the bayonet, it is a STEAL, but one best have the piece evaluated for authenticity & serviceability before putting up this kind of money.

It sounds like a great deal but remember some things are to good to be true. I love WWI and WWII guns, I started when I inherited a 1915 Lee Enfield .303 from my grandfather. The flaming bomb mark on the gun clearly means a U.S. gun. but be careful some of these guns were pieced together from old worn out guns after the war and resold. my suggestion is before you spend any serious amount of money verify the authenticity of the gun and the buyer...the 0 feedback would scare me away. as posted before www.gunbroker.com is a good place to look

Here's a whole list of them.

For a vintage 97 with bayo, if it's the real deal for 13 hundred you can't go wrong. I would be cautious about no feedback too. Do you have a link you can post of the shotgun you were looking at?

I sell and buy online and 0 feedback is just like that flaming bomb, bad intentions. I don't buy from or sell to anyone without feedback. There are just too many people out there who want your money. You could work out something through PayPal or Western Union. That way if the item doesn't show up, you're protected.

Good Luck

The price he is asking for it does not match the guns true value.* I would be very wary and suspicious and very worried about buying it.* Its to good to be true.* I would pass it up myself.*

No feedback, that is NOT a good sign.
