Yes, you will need to be able to have some level of classified information access. While, in your entire career, you may never be required to access secret or other high category information, you still have to be ABLE to at need. Besides, you need clearance for network access, and an officer who can't check email is going to go belly up quickly
Edit: For MrsJvb, to even go to field training requires passing a secret level clearance...

Yes, you have to have at least a secret clearance to be in training. (OCS, West Point, ROTC) Eventually, you will need a top secret. once you are deployed, everything that relates to operations are classified at the secret level and above. Also, your sipranet, which is the classified internet that you will use as a commander, is also at the secret level. If you are branched intelligence or signal, your initial clearance would be top secret. Anyone telling you otherwise is wrong, at least in the Army.

Yes, all military officers are required to have a secret Clearance. Some in specific jobs are required to have a top secret clearance.

Absolutely, Secret would be the minimum. It isn't hard to get that, provided you haven't "screwed the pooch" as a youngster or young adult. You CAN, however, forget having any secrets from the government. (As thought ANY member of the armed forces has any!) You will get regular re-screens, but those are merely administrative procedures for the most part. I had tio get a "secret" clearance as an enlisted, (Nuc field) so it isn't that big a deal.

Officers in the military must undergo a regular background check, using a program called EPSQ. They basically ask for everywhere you've lived for the past ten years, the jobs you've held, and any laws you've broken (yes, traffic tickets are included). They also ask for references from people who've known you well and some information about family members (particularly those born in other countries...it took me a long time to get the Army to understand that it wasn't a big deal that my dad was born in a communist country, since it wasn't communist when he was born, or when he moved to the U.S.).
Long story short: yes, but it's not a big deal if you're not a criminal.

Of course. A Top Secret clearance is necessary. FYI when the backround check is done, they go back to day one....So, juvinile records are checked, even school records. You have no secrets....Good Luck

not necessarily, although the ability to GET a clearance may be required. But just being an Officer does not by and of itself require any level of Clearance.

I believe they will give you security clearance. My fiance used to have the highest level when he was still active duty, now they dropped him down because he is just reserves.
