Grapes are not good and can kill a dog. Here is more...

http://www.barkleyandpaws.com/Pets/Dogs/25_Human_Foods_Toxic_To_Dogs_20070529201/

'1. Onions (Both onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient Thiosulphate. But onions are more of a danger. Many dog biscuits contain *small* amounts of garlic – garlic contains less of this toxin so huge amounts would need to be consumed to be toxic. And, by the way, this poison builds up the system – it can be toxic in one large dose – or with repeated consumption of small amounts.)

2. Chocolate (Chocolate contains Theobromine, a compound that is a cardiac stimulant and a diuretic. This can be fatal to dogs.)

3. Grapes (Grapes are dangerous because of an unknown substance which is toxic to dogs – affects canine’s kidneys)

4. Raisins (See above.)

5. Most Fruit Pits and Seeds (Contain Cyanogenic Glycosides resulting in cyanide poisoning – though the fruit itself is OK.)

6. Macadamia Nuts (Macadamia nuts contain an unknown substance that is toxic to dogs.)

7. Most Bones should *not* be given (especially chicken bones) because they can splinter and cause laceration of the digestive system and/or become lodged in your pet’s throat – so they also pose a choking hazard.

8. Potato Peelings and Green Potatoes (Contain Oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.)

9. Rhubarb leaves (see above)

10. Broccoli (Broccoli is only toxic in large quantities.)

11. Green parts of Tomatoes or Green Potatoes(Contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.)

12. Yeast Dough (Yeast Dough can produce gas and swell in your pet’s stomach – leading to rupture of the digestive system)

13. Coffee/Coffee Grounds and Tea ( are dangerous due to the caffine.)

14. Beer/Wine/Alcohol of any kind (Alcohol of any kind could lead to coma or even death.)

15. Human Vitamins (Human vitamins, especially those containing iron, can cause damage to the lining of the digestive system as well as cause kidney and liver damage)

16. Moldy or Spoiled Food (though I think this goes without saying.)

17. Persimmons (Persimmons can cause intestinal blockage)

18. Raw Eggs and Raw Fish (Raw eggs and some raw fish can cause Salmonella poisening.)

19. Salt, Baking Soda, Baking Powder (In large amounts these can cause an electrolyte imbalance – and severe electrolyte imbalances can lead to muscle spasm or even congestive heart failure.)

20. Mushrooms (Mushrooms may contain toxins which could cause liver and kidney damage)

21. Sugar-Free Foods (Sugar-free foods containing Xylitol have been found to cause liver failure in some dogs.)

22. Nutmeg (Nutmeg can cause tremors, seizures, and central nervous system damage.)

23. Excessive Fatty Foods (Excess fatty foods can cause Pancreatitis.)

24. Avocado (All parts of the avocado and avocado tree are toxic to dogs.)

25. Diary Products (Dairy products don’t usually pose a great danger; but many dairy product have high fat content (see number 23) – and many pets are lactose intolerant – some pets more than others. Lactose intolerance leads to gas and diarrhea; though small amounts of yogurt and cheese are usually fairly well tolerated.)'

This how we explain this owners: A dogs system is different than ours, they are designed to digest and process meat. There kidney's and liver work much harder to process corn, fruits and veggies. That said some vets, believe this can cause kidney and liver problems, which can cause death. It's the owners choice in the end, but think of what the animal is meant to eat, check out there teeth, (made for tearing into flesh and meat, unlike a cows, horses and so on that eat grass, carrots and so one. For example a rabbit came in only 7 months old with kidney failure, the child had feed it ham, (several times) the rabbit ate it and liked it??? But the bun bun didn't make it, it's system couldn't handle the process of digestion, of the meat. Hope this helps, it's also kinda like us it's not good for use to eat all the sugar, grease and so on we do, and we know it can kill us with heart problems, weight problems and again so on. Hope this helps and have a good day:)

Here's a list of bad food for dogs but i'm not sure about steamed?

Bad foods for dogs

Chocolate
Grapes
Raisins
Onions
Tomatoes
Caffeinated beverages
Garlic
Macadamia nuts
Cooked bones (chicken, turkey, pork, beef)
Walnuts

There are food nutritionists which write about this stuff. one of the best is Marion Nestle. She says this:
In most cases, if you are making healthy meals for yourself--meaning that you are choosing different types of foods from each of the food groups, all relatively unprocessed and without added sugars or salt--they will be good for your dog too. She has more to say: http://dogtime.com/cooking-healthy-dog-meals-nestle-faq.html

Onions can be harmful and grapes are poisonous. Otherwise, vegetables are good for them but pay attention to how much added salt and grease you're serving the dog. Mine get some of whatever I'm having, I put it in the bowl with their dry food and they do not beg. Dogs have tastes just like people, one likes raw apple, one hates ketchup, etc.

i read its ok to give fruit once a week. And for veggies, you shouldnt give more than 30% of his diet.

i give skinned apples (the skin is probably fine to give..but i thought it might have too much fiber) (and no apple core or seeds) once a week, as treats.
and i give 1/2 bananas.

I mix 1 tbsp canned pumpkin in their food every day, it helps their stools and is pretty healthy..

and mine love sugar snap peas, so i use them as training treats almost every day, and i'll give them carrot sticks about twice a week

so if you save part of your food (the healthy stuff) after youre finished eating, walk away from the table and make your dogs do a trick or lay down then give them the stuff, you wont feel as guilty to give in to them at the table and your dogs will feel like theyre working for it and be happier

They are fine, avoid onions because they can make the dog anemic. Also avoid grapes and raisins, as they can cause kidney failure, I've also heard that potatoes can make a dog sick too. It is commen for dogs to eat carrots and the like though, my vet reccomended giving my dog carrots after his meal when he was still hungrey but we were trying to get him to lose weight. Just keep in mind that they can't break down the cell wals, so they aren't getting a lot of nutrion, so don't sub it in for their regular food.

Most are good for them, some in moderation are ok some not so good; bad ones, grapes, onions, seeds from apples, chocolate-dark from cocoa beans. Those are the only ones coming to mind.

Tasting is wonderful, my heeler like to taste. If he likes it he'll want it again, if not he never asks again. He loves the little carrots -raw. Not really fond of green peas.

Dogs are actually omnivores, not carnivores. And everyone has already given you a great list of the fruits and veggies that are toxic to dogs.

Veggies are good. Be careful with fruit, it is harder to digest and may cause diarrhea. It's trial and error there, plus the sugar isn't good either. Miss Mary
