It is a consequence of the wisdom imparted by the Knowledge of Faith - that God has a Plan for all, and that the Plan often includes infants born as hermaphrodites. Just as in the old days of extreme mortality rates among newborns, when no child was named until 28 days had passed, so now the good Christian believer waits, and waits until the genitals have been examined. If normal, and a gender is clear, then a name may be applied. But hermaphrodites are set out on the rocks at night for the pixies to turn into dust. Later that dust is distributed to demons who lead astray men and women into Sins Against Nature and an Abomination, but that's a different Answer.

What, you mean before birth? I don't know. I guess many feel that the unborn child does not need a name until after it draws breath. I do know of some who give their soon to be born kids nicknames before birth. A teacher once called her son Thumper because he kicked a lot. I've heard of others who call them Squirt, or even PonyBoy. I can only image the last one was due to the personality of PonyBoy in the Outsiders??
Do other cultures name thier children before they are born, and use that name prior to birth?

Well, I don't know any commandment that says we even HAVE to give the little one a name.
There is, however a commandment that we should NOT murder. That command has been a great help for my discipline options a few times over the years.

Some people, Christian or otherwise, have the names of their children picked out before they are even conceived.

Looks like they didn't "get it." Before the doctor tells you the gender, how can you name it? But my surrogate daughter named her son as soon as she knew it was going to be a son. That was good for her, because it personalized their relationship more.

Well, my parents told me they didn't know if I was going to be a boy or a girl. So, how could they choose a name?
Jed suits me fine. I can't imagine being a "Jedette."

LOL I had mine named after 3 months of pregnancy. As soon as the ultrasound told me boy or girl. I had two names chosen before conception. One for a boy and one for a girl.

Really? Because I'm sure there's that birth certificate thing that you have to sign and put down a name after giving birth.
