I have made one for my job, I have stalked in it hundreds of times, it's four years old and still holds up. I ghillie should start with a pair of cammies, one size too big. Take a sea bag or some canvas and cover the front of the blouse, trousers and elbows in it. These are called skid plates and make it more durrable as a stalk is in the prone a lot. Make sure to use rounded edges as they are less likley to catch on anything. You can double stitch them on, and dental floss works best for that. After that, cover the seems and edges of the skid plates in shoe goo ( the more the marrier). On the back cut a large holw and cover it with mesquio net to make a vent and keep it confortable. Secure netting to the back of the blouse and trousers, a survival hammock works well. Use dental floss again, and/or zip ties. Don't skimp on this part, make sure it is good and secure as a loose net will catch on brush. Just jute or shredded burlap for garnish. Clumps about as wide as your thumb work well. Use shorter lengths for the shoulders and legs and longer ones for the small of the back and veil. A veil can be made in the fassion of a hood or like mine, a boonie cover. Netting and garnish is secured to this in the same way as on the rest of the ghillie. You want it long in back so it will cover your neck. Remember, the purpose of the garnish is only to break up the outline. Tie in lengths of 550 cord (gutted so the white won't show) with the garnish to aid in attaching vegitation to the ghillie. All of this burlap and shoe goo will be shiney, so spray paint over the shoe goo, and after that roll in mud, then let the suit dry. Repeat this process untill the suit has no shine and the garnish is frayed and dingey.

The one thing that I know about a ghillie suit is that it disguises the human form. Normal camo tries to make the form blend in with the surroundings but it is still pretty easy to notice. A ghillie suit uses materials to turn your profile from that of a human to that of an unrecognizeable blob. It makes it easier to blend in (if you choose the right materials to match the terrain). Think about your the shadow that you cast when you are wearing the suit. It should not be in a human form.

for upper body take two standard old fashioned British Camo scarves and tie them together, cut of lots of stips of hessian and other cam material and attach them to face veil and its an improvised ghillie suit, take a standard jungle hat and do same if you the strips are long enough they would cover down half way to legs, use natural vegetation around you to supplement it by using rubber bands or tying it on in other ways. Good luck.

P.s I have made several from scratch
