Hello,
(Ans) OK! the main difficulty I have with your question is that you haven't said (given any information on) how your laptop is trying to connect to the Internet.
**Are you using a plain old fashioned dial-up modem (built into the machine) and phone line and web browser?
**Are you using a wired up broadband router or broadband modem?
**Are you using a wireless router & built in WiFi network adapter that comes with the laptop?
**Are you using a Cable modem / router and a normal ethernet network card?
See the problem here?? Would like to help you but its a wee bit tricky without being a tad more specific.
Which version of windows vista are you using? Which ISP are you using?
Kind Regards Ivan

Contact tech support. Is the wireless button turned on? I had difficulties with my HP laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium and called tech support and problem was resolved. I find Vista to be Bill Gates biggest "offense to mankind to date". It is a memory hog O.S. that is not compatible with much.

First thing to do is make sure your wireless switch is turned-on, if you're doing it wirelessly.
Then call tech support. You should have a phone number that came with your laptop. There may even a shortcut to it on your desktop. Have a look round, there will be one somewhere.
Can't say much more with so little info.
