I saw this one girl from penpal site, I was interested to talk with her, so I sent her a mail. Nothing creepy, I just briefly introduced myself and asked her if she wants to exchange emails. Of course I didn't add any attachments.

The subject line of email was 'Hey there!' And I don't think that is creepy at all, lol

I haven't got her reply for a few days now. I thought she is too busy or is not interested to talk with me, and I don't mind it that much.
But on the other hand, I just realized that many spammers use subject line similar to what I used, hopefully you know what I'm talking about.
So, maybe, just maybe, she decided to delete my mail before she even read it, mistaking it as a spam mail. It could definitely happen.

But at the same time, she was probably expecting people to send her mail for penpal relationship, so I'm sure she didn't just delete all mails from strangers, you know.

So people, would you open an email with subject line of 'Hey there!'?

You see a lot of spam or viruses sent with a subject line like that. I likely wouldn't open it or respond to it.

Probably not. YOu're right, spammers use headlines like that. Maybe you should have tried a more descriptive one like...penpal request or something that referred to the penpal situation.
