my 17 year old has had 3 in 9 mo's, trying to explain that she's heading for a horrible accident if she doesn't accept the fact she needs to look within herself, not always everyone else's fault

Yes. Yes it does. Past history is a fairly standard indicator of future performance, especially in a skill that is not likely to improve much as she gets older.

Teenagers don't get into accidents because they don't have the driving skills to avoid them. Teenagers get into accidents because they try to push the limits of their skills/cars. Sometimes they grow out of it, sometimes they don't.

I've never been in an accident, and have been pulled over 4 times. I was careful right away (it's been 8 years since I first got my license) because I knew that I was paying my own insurance. She might get a wake up call if SHE HURTS FINANCIALLY from her poor driving and her premiums increase as a result.

If, after that, she continues to disrespect the cars on the road, then she doesn't need to operate one with your support. She can buy her own.

Above all, she needs to learn that driving a car is a privilege, not a right. That is the precise reason that licenses exist, to regulate who gets that privilege.

I don't know if you as a parent can legally take away her license, the state might have to step in and do that. But you CAN take away the means to drive (the car keys and the insurance coverage). Try that.

I dont belive that haveing a car accident makes it any more likely to have anouther. Now the way you daughter drives can be what the problem is. Maybe you need to teach her to drive better are send her to a driving school if you are unable to teach her any better. I would say with haveing 3 accidents in 9 months I would make her pay for her own insurance, and also the repairs of the car are cars she has recked. Rember you as the parent need to still make these kinda desions for your child and yes at 17 she is still your child and YOU are responable if she gets in to a accident and kills someone.

Definitely should have a talk with her. I don't know how else to rectify the situation. I would like to get in the car with her and see what she should or shouldn't be doing. But the very fact that you're in the car changes their driving habits. It's like driving with a supervisor.

Just easier to take her car away, but she doesn't really learn new skills. Maybe you should send her back to driving school before she gets her car back? :-)

3 accidents in 9 months?!?! Holy Crap! I had my first accident when I was 18. Right around the 18 month period, and it was a low speed fender bender in construction so no harm, no foul, no points.

Like I have said in previous posts, typically a youthful operator will have an accident within 18 months of getting their license and your daughter has had THREE?!!???

If she was MY daughter, I would take her OUT of the car. You would be saving HER life and potentially the lives of other people.

You need to send her to a driving academy in your area, and you need to forbid her from driving ALONE, UNSUPERVISED by you or another adult.....and especially forbid her from driving any of her friends around.

I would not be surprised if your DMV does not suspend her driving privileges for being a habitual violator and a menace to society. Your insurance company will probably want you to exclude her from your insurance policy and you will probably have to have her insured in your State's assigned risk pool or facility (depending on your State.)

I can tell you from my past experience, if you do NOT take control of this situation TODAY, you will be burying her at a ripe young age - and we are NOT supposed to bury our kids.

Please do the right thing and take her license away.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

Yes.

Mom, this is a 17 year old kid with three at fault accidents. It's up to YOU to keep this kid alive by pulling her license, and taking the car keys.

You can't convince a 17 year old girl of ANYTHING. It's time to take action.

Your 17 year old shouldn't be driving. She obviously doesn't take the responsibility of driving seriously and needs to take the "shoe leather express" or public transit for awhile until she does. She is driving your insurance premiums through the roof, also. I've been driving for 32 years and haven't been in 3 accidents. If she were my daughter, I'd take her license away and forbid her to drive.
