You could make a meatloaf with mashed potatoes and whole green beans, baby carrots or peas - steamed; a hearty stew; chili; spaghetti with a salad and garlic bread; ham and bean soup with fresh hot cornbread; Cornish game hens with roasted veggies...and for dessert a cheesecake with fresh fruit or a flavored cheesecake.

Why not do something that your grandma never cooked? My mother used to tell me my dad couldn't have onions or garlic. After she passed and I cooked for my dad he told me he LOVED onions and garlic! So I made tacos, enchiladas, Chinese food, stuff that mom never made. Do something different, not boring food. I bet they'll get a kick out of something different and new tastes. Don't try to copy grandma (the master cook!), be your own master cook!

use the crockpot for some reallly good meals made easy. As for kinds of foods.. granparents tend to go for hearty meats and veggies...
try lamb, or steak.. and green beans, mashed potatoes or squash.. also brocolli, cauliflower and cheese is a very good side veggie that is very easy.

Will depend on on the context really. Which is better as a snack - fresh fruit to me. It's tastier and gives you that tad of sweetness. Which can be better as a snack if you are trying hard to lower back on sugar and lose weight vegetables

How about pot roast (you can do this in a crockpot so its real nice and tender) with rice, a side of roasted red potatoes, and a nice salad.
Tasty and easy to do.
