that is not a protestant thing as you seem to be indicating.....

A nut case does not require any sort of religious back ground, it is only noted in those specific cases where the nut case combined parts of the Bible as part of their delusion.....

Quid Pro Quo baby Quid pro Quo.

(Stop watching 'Silence of the Lambs')

These Cult leaders Like Jim Jones and David Koresh are the ones Jesus warns us about .

Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Um, no Protestant denomination would consider Koresh or Jones to be part of the fold. They are cults unto themselves, we have seen cults spring up from all froms of Christian expression from the Janesists of Roman Catholics (ahem); the monophysites from Eastern Orthodoxy to the ones you mentioned. I think it has more to do with America's problems than a specific denominational expression. We as Americans seem to excel at finding new and interesting ways of killing eachother.

Easy enough.

QUESTION: Why do protestants form cults and lead their followers into mass suicides or other horrible deaths?

ANSWER by Rev. Dr. Keys

There are emotionally disturbed/character-disordered people in every conceivable population subgroup.

example; Why do attorneys lead their patients into needless, unfounded litigation every day? Why do physicians continually over-prescribe antibiotics rendering their patients antiobiotic resistant?

All protestants do not enter into this beginning and end point just as all attorneys do not lead clients into needless litigation.
All physicians do not over-prescribe antibiotics. All protestants do not form cults. why would you think they do anymore than anyone else?

Accepting disordered mental states, human ignorance, human frailty and human weaknesses are part of our human landscape. characterological or other wise. Counter-point it with it's dual opposite to encourage and develop everywhere

1. a competent ministry free of mental disease or defect
2. human knowledge and compassion to replace gross ignorance.
3. honor, integrity and respect for human and animal life

Keep it simple, baby,

hmmm...
I would have to say that it isn't just the protestants that are like that.
It seems that it is the "fanatic" of the religion that does that. And from what I have seen over the last many years is not just a 1 religion problem

Perhaps those pseudo-Christian killer-cults are just a variation on the theme of Cathollic killer-cults like the brotherhood of the 'Holy' Inquisition, or the fellowship of the Crusades?

When do we, as part of the human race, start taking some responsibility for allowing weak people to be led astray by crazed, psycho fanatics?
It has nothing to do with religion, it's a tool they use to lure people....where are we all as this is happening?
Real nice to sit back in your chair at the computer and condemn but what did you do to make things better for anyone so they don't become so vulnerable to loonies?

The Bible tells us to beware of false prophets and religions. We need to be careful and test the spirits and see what kind of fruit a person bears.

Better yet, why are they so outraged at this question but think nothing of it when they ask the same kind of questions about Catholics?
