My understanding is that a judge in MD has to approve the transfer of probation to VA and that process takes weeks if not months.
Simply living in VA and sending postcards back to MD is not adequate.
If one is on probation in VA and living in MD without VA's knowledge, MD will extradite back to VA if one is arrested and VA will detain for violating probation for leaving the state without permission.

Only a few misdemeanor probations can be transferred under the Interstate Compact for the Supervision of Adult Probationers and Parolees, such as 2nd offense DWI. However, your officer may let you go on a mail-in status without transferring the case.
No state to my knowledge will extradite on a misdemeanor.

I'm not sure you can transfer. Virginia is a whole different ball game. Here's another option - your PO may allow you to report once a month. Depending on how much time you have left on your probation, your PO may even be able to petition the court to release you from your probation early.
Talk to your PO about why you want to move and find out what your options are. Just don't go to your PO asking for a favor if you haven't done everything (and I do mean everything) that you have been required to do. Community service completed, no missed appointments with your PO, up to date on your probation fees, etc.

if you are on probation most states wont even let you out of the county for any reason unless you clear it with them first. and im sure if you dont check in like your suppose to and miss court then Im sure they can extradite you. you would have to talk to your probation officer and ask them the only way they might is if you have a job established there or some reason. but you will have to clear it with them and most likely the courts.
