Okay.... so this morning on the way to work I came to a 3 way intersection where each side has a stop sign and the only traffic was me and a couple of cars coming from the opposite direction. The 1st car from the opposite direction was clearly stopped a second before me so I let it go. I started into my left hand turn when the car I let go was just pass the halfway point through the intersection when all of a sudden the 2nd car decided to attempt to blast through before me. I hit my gas pedal and lunged at the second car causing them to almost hit a telephone pole while avoiding me. Was I wrong?

If the second car was there before you yes they had the right of way. Also if you both stoped at the same time the person on the right has right of way, whoever that was. I believe its the person on the right. Other answeres please correct me if I'm wrong. Its kind of difficlut to prove anything in a situation like that since its their word against yours unless a witness comes forward. Best thing to do is just wait and get eye contact with the other driver to see what they are going to do. Be glad you didn't get into a wreck.

Well you did have the right of way. But if the person really didn't want to stop you should have let him go. It is better to yield than to have an accident that will only waste your time. And if they were no witnesses it would be your word against his.

If YOUR choice of actions was to, either hit the brake and avoid a collision, or, hit the gas and CAUSE the collision, YOU were wrong.

YOU could have caused a collision, even though the other driver was breaking the law. HIS action may have been a violation. YOUR action could be construed as a criminal act.

You had the right of way, but why on earth did you hit the gas and run them off the road??!! Couldn't you have just hit your brakes and flicked them off like everyone else?

I could be wrong here...but I'm pretty sure the first car on your right has the right of way. Why I remember that is beyond me...but I'm pretty sure that's the rule. :)
