The newer model Mondeos like the one you specify are excellent cars. Just read any review on the Top Gear website on the Mondeo. And would you believe that a BMW 3 series is actually more common on UK roads than a newer model Mondeo, meaning you'll stand out in the crowd. Build quality as well is slightly better than Mercedes and BMW.

It's all good, really, Mondeos are damn good cars, often overlooked by private buyers as being too 'common' and lacking the right image, but nowadays, they're outsold by BMWs 3-series! They're good to drive, well equipped (try & get one with the 'quickclear' heated windscreen - a genius idea), as reliable as anything else, good value and not dear to run. The Ford Diesel engine isn't the last word in refinement, but in 130bhp guise, it'll give a lot of BMWs a fright at the lights, and give over 40mpg no bother.
The only downside is the price premium on the Diesels, I'm no great fan of oil-burners personally, and it would be worth carefully doing the sums to see if you wouldn't be better off with the 1.8 petrol unit, which would cost a fair bit less to buy.

I worked with Ford for most of my career, and i drove a Mondeo, it was the worst car i have ever owned. There was something wrong with the steering, in which i cld not find, it scrubbed tyres and needed replaced at front every 2 mths, it had water leaks in the boot..severe. My advice, SELL IT AND BUY A HONDA!

The bad points are:
The styling is slightly dull
The Ford badge lacks image
The car is rather large (too wide for most modern domestic garages)
It depreciates significantly in the first few years.
It is slightly less refined than some competitors
The good points are:
It is pretty reliable, quality is good
The ride and handling are very highly regarded
It is spacious and practical.
Performance and economy are decent.
It is quite cheap second hand (because of the depreciation mentioned above)
Parts are cheap, should you need them
It is one of the best cars available in Europe - or anywhere else for that matter.

Great car but too many on the road ( especially reps) and depreciation is consequently too high.
