Something in maroon would compliment it well. If he doesn't like all the walls dark, try painting just one or two maroon, and then the other two cream.
Maroon will hide toddler mishaps as well!

I think a different green would be nice. If your furniture is truly green, without too much blue or yellow tint, then something like apple green. Periwinkle blue might look well, too, but I think you should keep it on the light side if you have such dark furniture.
As for toddler messes... I have personally discovered Magic Erasers (off-brand is fine), and a flat enamel paint.

How about a sand color with one wall in an accent color, a burgundy or something along those lines. Typically you paint the accent wall opposite of the entryway.

You could go with a paler green, like "Coastal Plain" by sherwin williams. I think it's a very pretty color. I'm considering using it my dining room.
However, if that is too monochromatic for you, then maybe something in the orange family - like "warming peach." Very inviting.
