What I find even more ridiculous is that Muslims that come into this country bring in there religous beliefs in with it. and we have to abide by it. They don't wear uniforms in schools cause it's there religion to wear a certain dress or item of clothing. I'm not against any peoples beliefs but I will say that if your going to come into this country you damn well respect our way of doing things and learn to respect our traditions.
Also I personally think religion is the cause of all wars.

I completely agree with what the aviator said, I am proud that my country accepts religion and beliefs of others. What i'm trying to get at is that others should respect our ways and stop rubbing our noses in what they believe.

I just read the comment by Shawn S. And I agree with you Darfur is awful. And I do apologise if you feel i've disrespected them in focusing on a teddy bear rather then a real matter that needs addressing. I suppose that the Teddy bear is a symbol of just how petty our actions are when it comes too religion. 40 lashes for naming a bear mohammed. It's pathetic

"Our country's focus is religious tolerance.." which is what we all strive for. However, in doing so, we ultimately expect the same from others. The trial in Sudan, over what really is something quite paltry, and the riots over the Danish newspaper cartoons, show that other religions and societies have not yet reached the same level as we have.

The problems really arise when we, as nations, try to deal with these countries on an equal basis, politically, governmentally and businesswise, forgetting that in other respects, religiously and sometimes culturally, they are totally different from us or not so advanced.

Having said all that, if we look at the attitudes of our churches and religions in the 21st century, some of them are also stuck in the Middle Ages. Maybe we aren't so advanced after all.

You are taking an international case, where many people are hurt, and turning it into an anti-immigration debate. You are politicizing an unfortunate situation for your own political points. If you wanted to argue against Muslims being in this country, then just do that.

I am very proud that my country is one where Muslims can come here, and still feel and have the right to practice their religion without much persecution. It is a testament to the freedoms of the US. And I think Muslims do respect our way of doing things and out traditions. And they are asking the same of us.

I am Pagan.....and I am really disgusted at the teddy bear trial in sudan.
I did have an interest in islam. But no more. The sudan government has quite successfully put me off that interest for several life times over. I am quite and more than happy to remain Pagan. And I have the consolation of knowing I will not get accused of inciting hatred and all the rest of that crap by naming my Teddy "All Father" and that is a God, not a poxy little prophet.

What I find disgusting is that people are consumed with this case. How is this the main problem in Sudan. Darfur continues and we focus on a teddy bear.

It is not you. It is the media and world powers (political and religious) that try to focus our attentions off the real issues. Even in the States we still allow religious ideologies to mandate law.

I am a Muslim, and I personally feel that this woman was treated unfairly.

If she had deliberately broken the laws of the country, then yes she should accept the punishment of the Sudanese government. However, this wasn't deliberate. She asked a little boy "what would you like to call your teddy bear" and he replied "Mohammed". When they asked the boy why he chose that name, he said because my name is Mohammed.

They made an unfair decision.

It is always ridiculous to claim a heretic of a person who is not of that faith. Muslims need to lighten up, as do all religious zealots.

I disagree with you that they are treated much differently in the US though. They may wear head scarves and similar dress, but Christians also wear crosses in school, so there is some religious tolerance, which I think is a good thing. I don't think that we need to abide by their beliefs, as you state.

You are absolutely correct, likewise if you go to their country you have to respect their way of doing things and their laws.
Whether you agree with it or not, this woman broke the law and no I don't think the possible punishment fits the crime.
