We can have people born in other countries living in Britain and still be proud.... I certainly still see Britain as a very special place!

I am more proud of the hard working people who come from other countries to live here than the millions of lazy *** Brits who claim disability benefits because they have bad nails or are obese!

I still see Britain as having it's identity, it's just updated itself and moved on... it's the media who tell you that it's a horrible place to live and the problem is the majority of the people listen to this!

People complain that Brits can't get jobs because people are coming to live here from Poland or whatever but I say if the Polish are willing to come here and work for a living, let them... there are plenty of jobs out there for everyone and if everyone was willing to work for a living, we would all be much better off!

It's the Brits I'm ashamed of not the people moving here from other places

I'm not saying that everyone who comes here has the best of intentions, but I would say that at least 80% of them do!

Watched Question Time last night and noticed something very striking. All three main parties sing the praises of immigration and the subjugation of Britishness to multiculturalism. Why? I don't know but the Establishment definitely has an agenda on this. This country is going down paths it shares with practically no other nation, especially in the area of personal surveillance. The logical result is that we will end up living in a high tech police state where different cultures, beliefs and sexual orientations will be allowed limited self expression policed by a severe code of political correctness. Thing is, is this what the woman or man in the street wants ?

If I hear the word racist again I think I will scream. Spelling aside, read the question. This is not about race but about numbers. That the vast majority who are coming here are white, european and more often than not Christian where does the race element come into it?
There are simply too many coming here, our already overstretched services, schools, healthcare housing etc.are being overwhelmed by this influx. It is all too easy to say that the majority find work but those jobs are being taken away from the indigenous population. Please don't tell me they are doing the jobs the lazy Brits won't do, that is a fallacy, they are taking the jobs that pay a pittance and then getting it topped up by the British taxpayer in the form of "Working Tax Credits". A benefit which once in receipt of, leads to countless other benefits and freebies.I know from personal experience that there are often up to 10 people sharing two rooms, imagine how cheap the rents are when divvied up between ten, and you are not telling me they are all paying council tax. Why do you think there has been a huge surge in "buy to let"? Have you seen the RTA statistics for the last six months? The numbers driving without tax, insurance, a valid MOT? A significant increase, the vast majority of whom are from countries outside Britain. The theft of metal, eg sewer covers, road signs, roofing lead etc has increased by 1000% in the last six months. Have most Brits now turned to this kind of crime? Organised crime, petty crime, prostitution, all have risen dramatically in proportion to the numbers entering this country. Agreed that not everyone coming here is a criminal but if you let in a million people, many from poverty stricken backgrounds where criminality was required to survive, then you will be letting in a good number of them.
Anyone with any intelligence realises that we Brits are mongrels, an amalgam of many countries. Lets not go there, it is a given. However, for about at least the last 150 yrs we have had an IDENTITY, a culture, a history, it is that which is being negated and eroded, aided and abetted by this and previous governments determination to wipe it out in pursuit of multiculturism. The PC brigade have worked long and hard to make sure that we question our every thought and every action in case we offend anyone. That is a sure and trusty weapon in the fight against free speech! Judging by some of the answers it is working extremely well. Led by the nose by the EU, who have their own agenda in reducing this country to nothing, our leaders are content to let this country go to the dogs. Open your eyes people before it is too late, I wont be here to suffer the final death throes of my country so will be unable to say "I told you so".

Not for nothing but losing are british identity, if we wanted to keep that identity wouldnt we have stayed over there, americans left europe to get away from the prejudice over there and to have freedom, are not illegal immigrants doing the same, if america is the "land of the free" why do we make such a big issue about others coming into this country, i think immigrants should have socials that way they can pay taxes just like the rest of us, if they dont like it then send those who dont follow american law back and just call it a day instead of dragging this out

Of course it is not "racism" - a much abused word. Yes, there are far too many coming to Britain; many of whom are just riff-raff there for a free lunch. There is not much one can do about it, though, since the Establishmemt is all in favour of the process continuing. I suspect that little short of a revolution would suffice.

There are too many people here who are taking jobs and placing extra demands on our health service, housing and education.

And to the "Welsh" person who says there's "no British identity" - speak for yourself. I'm Welsh *and* British. And yes there is a British identity. I feel it quite strongly.

Considering we were originally a nation of foreigners, romans, vikings etc then the new influx really is just a continuation of the way it has always been, but it will be many years before we become a 'nation' again and who knows what will happen, I guess we can only just sit and watch America for the outcome

Please see a question i posted earlier today on this subject ..............http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoPDPiP1etriVarxULkg4GkgBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20071129062435AAVj017

Yes and yes. Britain should be taking care of its own first. Only once we have got a perfect country should we be helping other countries citizens. There is no longer the great pride in Britain there once was because we(white British) people are being told what we should believe and how we should live (ie no "christmas trees" in town centres) and if we dare to stand up for our history or rights as British citizens we are classed as racists. If we complain about the amount of imigrants coming to this country not able to speak the language we are racists. If we say anything in response to the complaints when muslims are not allowed to wear religious articles to places of education or work etc we are racists. If we fight for UK citizens to have better healthcare, housing and wages to see our own people having better standards of life we are racists. Why the hell did my Grandparents (and those of every other Brit) bother to fight in the world wars to keep this country from Hitlers hands if we are going to roll over and give it up now?? By this countries government not allowing British citizens to live how they want to is this not also racism???
A friend of mine is currently travelling 30 minutes each way to take her son to a school on my estate as if he had attended any of the 5 schools that are closer to his home he would have been an ethnic minority in the school and he is White British. She is not racist she just wants her child to be educated with english children in english schools by english teachers cus we live in ENGLAND!!!

Why do the Neanderthal racists here post the SAME QUESTION all the time? I mean, have you not seen the millions of other identical questions here asking the same thing? Or can't you read? And what does 'British Identity' mean? Does it mean not having a clue when it comes to ENGLISH GRAMMAR AND SPELLING?

Well, you have Morissey on your side!

I think there is a lot of fear in the indigenous English. I don't know why that would be. We are all individuals first, and citizens of Britain second. Why can't we share the world with each other?

What is the British identity anyway? Most of it is a stereotype. Lets learn to be citizens of the world together.
