For a while Ive had some jaw pain on the top & bottom jaws, Mostly my bottom lower left jaw. I knew it was a wisdom tooth and a cracked tooth i had so I had them removed, and soon after the pain in that area went away. Now my top jaws hurt, I know its my wisdom teeth. My gums & the middle of my teeth hurt & I get ear pain.
Last night I had a pain on the side of my right eye (over the bone) I even woke up in the middle of the night because the pain on my right jaw with the migraine was too much. The only way to get lessen the pain was excedrin and a heating pad. I was told by the dentist that all my wisdom teeth were impacted, but right now I dont have the 600 to pull them out. My question is:
Is there any effective way to lessen the pain? I heard it could be teeth grinding while I sleep (i wake up w/ jaw pain too) & was thinking of getting a mouth guard at walmart for the time being but am strapped for money (does it work?)
I dont want a heating pad attached to my face 24/7 lol
TY

Ok first off, I CANT AFFORD to get them removed or get a nightguard custom made..if i could i wouldnt have posted. And no the credit things they offer dont work, I wasnt approved. I already had to borrow money to pay for the first two teeth which im still paying back (I only got them removed a month ago) I know it could be TMJ or bruxism, and was wondering some cheap effective TEMP pain relief until i can save enough to see a dentist.

PS, while clove oil does work wonders, eventually it wears off its effectiveness..and has some pretty bad side effects if used often (which i didnt know about til after..I used alot cause i was in alot of pain) They include nerve damage, stomach pain if ingested alot and kidney damage. (I got a kidney infection a few weeks after using it and nothing worked to make it go away, not even prescriptions, well i ran outta clove oil - well, it was called red cross...and bam i feel better. im not sayin its bad its just not a good long term thing)

The headaches and pain during the night do indeed sound like you suffer from sleep bruxism. TMJ is a related disorder, but does not actually include bruxism (teeth grinding), except as a possible cause of TMJ. There are a few things you can do at home to help. If you can purchase a mouth guard from a local shop, go right ahead. The only problem with those is that they are sometimes difficult to fit and take a few weeks to get adjusted to during sleep. Be prepared to face one or two sleepless nights until fully adjusted, but don't give up too easily. However, some people are unable to adjust to the over-the-counter mouth guards, and may require one specially fitted from a dentist. Also a dentist could analyze the amount of wear in the enamel of your teeth to determine the severity of the grinding. Other things that may help, along with the heat are: taking ibuprofen or similar may help, try to avoid caffeine as much as possible (particularly within six hours or so of going to bed), avoid gum chewing and eating other such candies or chewing ice. Try to relax every evening before bed, and cut down on your stress levels during the day if you are able. I, too, suffer from sleep bruxism and have for years. The defense I have for it is the mouth guard from my dentist. Good luck, and I hope this helped!

Well, you are talking about two separate things. If your wisdom are infected, you may really want to get Care Credit http://www.carecredit.com/or something like that to have them removed ASAP. Otherwise the pain will increase over time.
Do NOT apply heat to those teeth please! You may make any infection spread that way. Use ice instead to reduce swelling/pain.
If your wisdom teeth are simply impacted, the Excedrin is about all you can do to ease the discomfort for now. You may also ask the dentist if he could recommend a specific product or prescription for you.
For teeth grinding and TMJ, the NTI device is what you want. It definately works for me. http://www.softdental.com/articles/my_tooth_is_killing_me.htmll

Apply a drop or two of clove oil on the tooth and around it. It will sting for a few seconds then the pain will go away. I did it.

THE TYPICAL MOUTHGUARD YOU CAN BUY AT WALMART CANNOT STOP THE PAIN FROM NIGHT GRINDING.
WHY NOT?
IT WAS NEVER DESIGNED TO DO SO.
SO, THEN WHAT CAN BE DONE?
YOU MUST HAVE YOUR DENTIST MAKE YOU AN N.T.I. BRUXISM APPLIANCE. THIS WORKS ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT METHOD AND WILL STOP THE MUSCLE PAIN.
MY PATIENTS WHO HAVE THIS, LOVE IT.
