Thats what I heard as well. There is a new dvd out called Beyond the Golden Compass. I watched it last night ( i manage a video store) It explains the author of the books ideals and his interest in science and other realms. Look for reviews online. I still intend to see it - don't know if I will believe any of it, its just a story after all.
P.S. Give bad ratings all you want. I stand up for my views - thats ok My reward will be great! I find it funny that you give thumbs down for me saying there is a new dvd out on rent. Your stupidity really shows. lol
Shlane I hope you stick to your guns and are proud of your faith. I wouldn't let anyone here sway you. You have a smart mind of your own. Its ok to see things opposed to your religion. It makes you that much more educated than those of no faith. You will have knowledge to defend your religion by seeing this. Those that have no faith believe in things like this. God Bless you!

The books are supposed to be a little anti-catholic. The movie has most of that stripped out (obviously they want to make money!)

It's called the "Golden Compass" and it's not out yet.

It's based on the first book of a trilogy called the "His Dark Materials Series," and is alternately called "The Northern Lights" in England. It's a good book. People say it's anti-Catholic because it is...it takes place in a world that's very much like that of the Dark Ages.

I've read the trilogy and I enjoyed it. (I'm a Christian) It's fiction and it's fantasy, people get way too worked up about silly little things these days. If we saw half this outrage about poverty or world hunger, maybe we'd actually get something accomplished in this world.

The Golden Compass is about a world ruled by evil priests and in the end the two kids kill God, whom is also bad. In one of the books the ex-nun tells the kids to do whatever they want (sexually) because there are no consequences.

The author of the book said it is to combat Narnia.

It looks like it will be a great adventure/fantasy film.

I'm so sick of hearing all the hoopla about the God thing.
I read they do not have any such scene in the movie. It's a rumor being spread by christians. It's not fact.

Geez people did you grow up watching Snow White? Wizard of Oz? Sorcerer and the Stone? Harry Potter? All full of witches, wizardry etc. It's fantasy not reality. Stop trying to make movies be your conscience and spiritual guideline and just enjoy them Their fiction.

The "bad guys" in the book are an evil religious organization, and Catholics believe it will lead children to become atheists. The movie, however, has had all religious references removed from it, so it ends up being a little silly (the bad guys have no purpose or reason for being bad).

I am looking forward to seeing it. It will probably do pretty good in the box office with all of the free publicity it is getting from the people who oppose it. That sort of happens when people freak out over a film. It just makes people want to see it even more.

The Golden Compass? yes it has some minor christian themes, but if you read the book, and ACTUALLY UNDERTSAND IT, it is actually christian loving, and it should be a good movie to watch.
