sounds like it's going bad. Get rid of it.

probably. If you can smell or taste that its "off", it probably is. Just throw it away. A milk's expiration date has NOTHING to do with when its due to spoil, but simply how long a store is legally allowed (for "safety reasons") to sell it to the public before it has to be pulled from the coolers. I purchased milk two days ago that had an expiration date of December 5th, and went to use it this morning on my cereal..and..WOW...I almost vomited as I was pouring it into the bowl. Its a hit-or-miss thing with milk. Also..skim milk tends to spoil more quickly than whole milk does. I believe it is something to do with the fat content "preserving" it. So yes...pour the milk down the sink...rinse the carton/jug out well, and then put it in your trash (so it doesn't stink up your house if you don't take the bag outside right away)

Also, for future reference...if your milk spoils almost immediately after you purchase it, try taking it back to the store you bought it in and ask them for a refund, or an exchange. Here in NY, if you buy your milk from any Stewart's shops they will gladly exchange it for you, as they "guarantee" all their milk/milk products.

If it smells or tastes funny, chances are its spoiled. Give it a few days and it will curdle. The date isnt neccessarly the day it spoils, its a guide for the sellers to pull it from the shelves.

If it smells werid and it taste sour and it expires today then it is already spoiled.

Usually McArthur milk last a couple of days after experation but supermarket brand expire the same day as the date printed.

Sometimes milk will expire before the use-by date. Just like if you buy a bag of salad, some of them turn brown faster than others. I would toss it, especially if you can smell it. That's always my only test... smelling it. Just like deli meat!

Hope this helps! :-)

my son can always tell just before the milk starts to sour!

He would always put an X on that carton so I would use it in cooking instead of him trying to drink it.

Oh, yeah! he has his own house now, so doesn't taste test my milk any more!
