Just wondering what peoples opinions are of being and athiest. Why should i believe in god? Why is it so tragic if from person experience from my life i have made my own decision to become a non believer? I have never had any pressure on from close people to believe in anyone or be part of a religion. I leave a very happy life as an athiest. So why can it be so bad?

Having once been an unbeliever, I'd have to say that life without God can be really cold, dark and empty. The love that God has can completely change your heart and mind. I am glad that you are happy, but you are only living on the tip of it all where God's love can make a huge difference. God loves you as much as He loves me. It is your choice to believe or not. What would you have to lose by giving God the benefit of a doubt? Maybe one day a light will go on inside you and you will change your mind. Until then, I will remember to pray for you and I wish you well in your life.

Spell it right, ok?
I am also an a-theist- a not god -daddy-Santa- believer.
But I do believe things that I can't prove and so do you.
We couldn't get up in the morning if we didn't "suspend our disbelief" long enough to dare to think it was safe.
Knowledge tells us this world is a dangerous and tragic place. Facts bear it out. Fear increases it.
I want to live in a pleasant, loving, kind world, and I do.
I am not blind to the bad things that happen/exist, I just don't bring them into my life on purpose.
I hope you know peace, joy, contentment, forgiveness, kindness to strangers, and a deep feeling of worth and meaningful contribution.
However you can get there, it is a good thing.

I don't think you are. I think that you may have never been introduced to God and what he can do in your life. I think you may feel that you are still missing something in your life and desperately trying to seek and find out what it is. All you have to do is ask Him to show Himself to you, trust Him and believe. I'm 25 and about 2 years ago I was making 50K living in a condo and driving a brand new car. I thought I had it made but I was never satisfied and always wanted more and more. I had a void that I was trying to fill and I thought that by having the material things in life and a good "status" that I had it made. But I felt empty inside. Accept God into your life and let Him fill that spiritual hole in you. God Bless!

The reason some Christians want you so desperately to believe in God is because of what they know to be true. They were, at one time, where you are now. They press in too hard instead of letting God draw you. This is what causes so many people to look down on Christianity. They are quick to judge and boastful...that is not like Christ. We believe that there is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun. And because you don't believe, to us, it is like you not believing in gravity and jumping out of an airplaine without a parachute. There are still some good Christians out there...that actually care about what happens to you.

I am an agnostic/atheist

I allow for the *tiniest* possibility that there may be a deity (or deities)
A hard line atheist would probably regard me as an agnostic

however, I think the possibility of a god existing is so, so infinitesimally small, that an agnostic, would probably consider me to be an atheist

I dislike hard line atheists who have never given religion a moments thought... not only are they ignorant of the facts, but they are so easy for a theist to convert, as they have no intellectual ammunition against a well-read theist.
they are the ones who usually go on to be fanatical theists - giving the religious crowd the opportunity to crow about 'winning over hard line atheists'

I say that God does not wish you to perish.

Without faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, you will be ultimately judged under the Law...no matter how good you think you are. All is in vain before the Father without, first, faith in Christ. Without the righteousness of Christ imputed to you through faith, you will be found wanting in judgement. You will be thrown into the lake of fire for eternity to be tormented day and night. There will be no hope of escape nor respite. There will be pain, wailing, and gnashing of teeth day and night, over and over again, forever.

Our sin already condemns us to this before a perfect and righteouss God. However, Jesus paid our price. We can have His righteousness imputed to us, and receive salvation by placing our faith in Him. This leads to repentence and a changed life.

Following Christ does not mean your life will be happier here on earth. Your friends will mock you...you will stop doing things that might "make you happy" right now. You may be persecuted...you may be killed, like many Christians around the world. But, you will also have a hope, a joy, and a peace that simply passes understandinig. You have a future for eternity. You will be saved from the second death.

The great tragedy in todays World is religion. It is the reason for more suffering and death than anything you can imagine. It is the main reason for armed conflict and the tribal and Territorial mentalities that abound in todays sad World. Only when Science becomes the dominate form of rational thought can Humanity call itself civilised. The insanity of religious indoctrination in a modern world is a profound evil. Any Sentient being with a rational thought must look at religion with repellent astonishment.

I would feel sad. There is so much that you will miss because of what God has to offer. That is why true Christians try to convince non-believers. True Christianity is not about control or greed as some have made it, but it is about love and friendship. I feel sad because atheists miss out on this not only now in this lifetime, but also in the one to come. This life to come also gives us purpose for living.

Being an atheist is a great thing and congratulations for finding the truth. We are just fewer in number compared to the rest of the religions in the world. All religions have one common ideology, belief in a supreme entity. We do not believe in anything. There are fewer of us then there are of them so you will run into many people who feel they know better than you.

Its not bad.

Its the other religions inability to accept that which "isn't their way" which is quite frankly what puts me off the whole idea in the first place.

Most of the worlds wars & atrocities have been a result of religion.

I just think "be nice, be helpful" and just try to get along with people. I don't need a book mandating that this is the way I should act in order to do those things.
