I believe "old sparky" is still maintained as an option for bad boys in several states. The guillotine, named after the French Dr. who invented it as a "humane" way to dispatch souls to God, however is no longer in use. I know the guillotine seems cruel, but I suppose it was much better than a man with an axe who might get his aim off a little, or in the case of the French Revolution, become so tired from so many executions that his strength was weakened to the point that it might take two or three swings to finish someone off. Here's a bit of trivia for you: Did you know that Thomas Edison hated the electric chair? Not because of any humanitarian streak, but because it was scaring the h-ll out of everyone about electricity during the time that his company Edison Electric was trying to convince people to have electricity installed into their homes. Have a nice day.

The electric chair is still used in 10 states, with Nebraska using it as the sole method of execution. The other 9 use it if the inmate requests it (as is his right, apparently)
. The guillotine is not, at least not here.

Yes. They fried up a guy in Tennessee just a couple of months ago, at his request. Some states still maintain options to lethal injection. Utah still has a firing squad option.
No guillotines though, that went away with the Jacobins.

We still use "old Sparky" in Tennessee. If they were setenced to death before a particular year (not sure what that year is) then the prisoner can choose his own way to die---electric chair or lethel injection. The guy we electrocuted a couple of months ago was a child molester and choose to die that way, which is the least of what he should have gotten

Up until the recent round of pity-party cruelty talks Ol Sparky was still a viable option here in Oklahoma.

I think both were ruled too cruel to use on people that murder and torture other humans.
