It is about Human Rights, America was built on Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Not in most other countries. Amnesty is now joining forces with other groupes to fight for human rights in other countries, freedom to vote, freedom of speech, not to mention women in a lot of other countries are treated like 2nd class citizens, they do alot of good work.

Often, Amnesty International brings to light human rights abuses (people being jailed without charges, women or an ethnic group or religious group being oppressed, etc.) that no one else is paying attention to, leading to media attention, government action, and even positive action (the person being released, better treatment of the group in question, etc.). Visit their web site, sign up for their email newsletter/updates, and if they have a MySpace profile, make them a friend -- I think you'll find yourself quickly overwhelmed with all they do and the difference they make.

Human Rights Watch is also a terrific organization doing similar work.
