In 1991 I got my first job and got paid 36 Irish Pounds per day-8 hours, and that was really good then!

The first time I ever worked was when I was still in primary school. A farmer used to come round the scheme and offer £20 for a days work picking potatoes out a field, back then I was about 10 years old so it would be about 1989. One thing it taught me was the feeling to make your own money, I think that's why I have always worked hard since I left school, I can't stand those lazy bast@--ds who do nothing with their life

Thought I was going to be the Granny on this one, until I saw Nossda's posting. In 1964, I was on the rate of £345 per annum, about £6.64 (or £6/13/- in those pre-decimal days) a week. I paid my Mum for my keep, and ran a car on that! It was a good wage. Shop girls were on £3.

£37.50 a week in 1988 on YTS, used to go out drinking 3 nights a week and could save some money to go back up North every 2nd weekend. 1989 - got a job paying £650/month but it never lasted past a fortnight!

$1.75 a hour in 1975. Got pay every 2 weeks of 100.00 That only lasted 3 months next job was in a factory at 4.50 a hour

I was a "Yopper" and got £12.50 per week. That must have been in 1979. I got a huge raise to £23.50 the following year on the same scheme....
